I have a friend who had a12 ml stone laser blasted in her kidney but now all the fragments are in there. Her doctor said he cannot get them out. He actually told her to stand on her head after the surgery. He approved her using chanca piedra as a supplement to help dissolve the fragments. Has anyone ever taken this and does anyone know of side effects? I am concerned for her because she only has one kidney left and that's at stage 3b. I read that it has a diuretic affect which I am worried will tax the remaining kidney. Her doctor is in Florida and she is not.

I'm assuming that she and her doctor are in different places because one of them is traveling. If that's not correct she should see a qualified physician where she is now. I've not heard of the supplement but I would think if it does what the doctor was claiming it does it would be found in every medical magazine in the country if not the world.
She is summering up here and has very specialized health insurance that would not allow for visiting anyone up here. She does not have a lot of $$ as much as summering sounds like that. And I have NO faith in her doctor in FL. She has only one kidney and I am afraid that his lack of expertise in dealing with the stone and her condition is not helping her. He said he was unable to retrieve any of the fragments because of the location of the stone and he did not want to do external surgery because he was afraid it would cause more damage.
In the 80's I had a large kidney stone that the doctor's blasted with a laser. I was instructed to drink larger than normal amounts of water after till the rest passed. I had to use a "strainer" every time I peed and collect the pieces as I passed them. I was never given any kind of supplement.
I was followed pretty closely by my urologist. I guess I would suggest she see her local doctor and get this all sorted out. Not only can kidney stones cause horrible pain, but can also do more damage to her already fragile kidney.
