Had bloods back today and my GFR has gone up by 1 it's now 21, it's not massive amounts but I'm taking it as a small victory. My Creatinine has gone down from 260 to 250 do again small victory. My sodium however has fallen to 26 had this happened to anyone else, if so what are the possible treatments for this?
Sodium: Had bloods back today and my GFR has... - Kidney Disease
Sodium
Yea for you, Munf... doing a victory dance for you!!!!! (((((dancing))))))
what was your sodium level before and what did the doc say about it?
Up is always better in this case so congratulations on that. Based on one lab it's hard to say anything about it with clarity. Did your physician review the labs with your, and if yes, what did they say? If it's a major issue ask to repeat it in a couple of weeks. Based on your previous results and this one and the next you should be able to notice a pattern. If this is a trend then I'd suggest you speak to your doctor. Be wary of eating more salt to bring the number up. Our body does need some sodium, but it is still hard on the kidneys. Do you also see a cardiologist? If yes, bring that person into the conversation.
Thank you. 😁. It's been up and down it usually around 131 has dropped to to 129 before but 126 is the lowest it's been. My Gp is doing my bloods weekly and has told me to have them repeated early next week. She say if it gets to 23 then they would admit me to hospital, she as if now I'm okay to be at home, my cardiologist seem to say similar things.
Are you on any medication for high blood pressure? They recently switched my meds for that and I'm taking Hydralazine and Carvedilol and my last numbers were great. I'm holding my GFR at 48 and other numbers are right in range. Good luck on your retest.
Yes, I'm on 3 different tablets for blood pressure and its just starting to get to normal. Thank you. 😁
Hi Munf,
Excellent! Every step is a victory and every move is closer to preventing progression. One move at a time!
My lab criteria is a bit different but I have had an issue with low sodium.
I would speak to your doctor regarding your lab results. They may look at how much water you are consuming among other things.
Generally 1,200- 2,000 mg of sodium in foods is recommended by renal dieticians unless otherwise stated by your doctor.
My present nephrologist and GP have me drinking a small amount of Gatorade Zero in the morning and it has done the trick, but what works for me, may not be healthy and appropriate for you.
Every person is different, so ask your physician as to their suggestions.
Interested in their response and how you are doing. Reach out!
That’s awesome! I get so excited when my numbers improve even if it’s only by one point😀😀
i run low on sodium also....i was taking a blood pressure medicine that had a diuretic in it....Nephologist cut the dose in half and it now stays in low/normal range...
