Hi
Stage 3 is still very early stages and depending in age and how fast the disease progresses depends on these things. Most people with kidney disease will progress to needing dialysis or transplant but this doesn't happen until you are in stage 5 with less than an egfr of 15.
I was born with kidney disease but only diagnosed at 20 years old with her of 20 so already in stage 4 but I've lasted 18 years and only now stating dialysis in 10 days time. Try not to think or worry about dialysis now you need to look at the here and now and what you need to do to prevent the decline or at least try and slow it down. These changes need to happen now rather than waiting for tomorrow as that day will never come.
Cut salt from your diet, maintain a heavy weight (normal bmi), try and lower blood pressure if high, eat a well balance diet, no processed foods, or junk foods as all high in salt, avoid dark sodas. Start to exercise even if it's only a walk it's amazing how it will help. Now I'm not saying deprive your self of treats and going out for meals or having the odd takeaway but you need to do everything you can to help your kidneys now.
Good luck but do think yourself as someone very lucky as many don't find out this early on

Hi there, only about 5% of people diagnosed with CKD progress to stage 5 and need dialysis/transplant so please don’t worry. I’ve been at stage 3 for nearly 10 years and have not got worse, in fact, with a kidney friendly diet/lifestyle my kidney function has improved. Please do not believe everything you read online about CKD being irreversible and it will inevitably lead to dialysis. It very much depends on the cause of CKD and how it’s treated.
I am feeling light headed and sick most of the time with bloated belly is my stage three getting worse
I was diagnosed with stage 3, GFR was 45, I got it up to 53 within a year which my Dr told me based on age etc that it’s almost normal. I’m doing labs again next week and then my 6 mth check so I’m hoping nothing has changed.
Hi Kingfisher 3, please do not worry so much. I was told that i had ckd stage 3 in April last year. When i asked how long i had had it my test results showed as far back as 2009. Hence i did nothing to slow the process down in 8 years because i didnt know, so i guess what im saying is knowledge is power. I am still at stage 3 but now im a little more mindful of what i eat and i go for a daily walk. Good luck, relax and enjoy everyday. Happy New Year
Thanks to all for reasuring words. Guess at 81, GFR of 52 and stage 3A CKD is not so bad!
