Hi, Sobia🐶
Do you have access to a renal dietician? If not, you may be able to connect with one through the NKF.
Your diet will have to be customized specifically for you based on your renal panel labs. A renal dietician will help you do that but will need to see your labs.
Then, once you have target levels for daily intake of sodium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, and fluid, you'll be able to find renal-friendly recipes on web sites like NKF, Davis, and do forth.
I use a free app called HealthWatch 360 to help me as I'm doing my grocery shopping and planning my weekly menus. This app allows me to do the following:
1. Take a picture of grocery item bar codes. The app will then check the USDA data-base for the item. It then tells me the full nutritional make-up of the item. Do I know how much phosphorus the item contains. It tracks all nutrients in the item.
2. I can also enter my own recipes into the app. It will then calculate the nutrition for s single serving of the recipe.
3. I can plan meals for a week. The app allows me to check and track my nutritional levels each day. I can print a graph of this information do I have it to take to doctor appointments.
NKF also has an app that helps track your nutrition. But I haven't used their app yet so I don't know how it compares to the app I use.
I don't have an iPhone, but I do have an android iPad (not an Apple product). I'm going to see if I can get the app on my iPad. What a tremendous resource. I will share this at my local kidney support group in Richmond, VA.
Please go to DaVitadiethelper website to get info on all the food issues you will have. It's ver useful. Also, your Dr. should recommemd a good dietian in your area. Simaron
Yes, I meant to say Davita web site too🐶 My text uses autocorrect when I text which I don't always catch. But I spent A LOT of time reading information on the Davita website the first year of my diagnosis. I found it really helpful to read the helpful hints they include at the end of each recipe for how you can further modify the recipe to meet your specific dietary targets. That actually helped me figure out how I could modify some of my own more renal-friendly recipes. Anyway, I really did find their web site and the Healthwatch 360 app to be invaluable.
