hello. just had my letter from hospital concerning gall bladder removal the surgeon also found a fatty rigid liver. I am shocked . !!! I eat healthily or try to .I don't eat cakes/biscuits/pastries. like the odd fish and chips. I don't eat pizza/burgers etc.am vegetarian ,and have IBS so I don't eat spicy foods /egg/onion/ or anything with palm oil in it. so plain boring food. ok I don't exercise but I do enjoy walking.so maybe throw my disabled bus pass away .i work voluntary in salvation army charity shop..i eat plenty of fruit ,drink loads of water .and end up with a fatty rigid liver.so my next plan is to lose weight as I am obese .they say 4 stones to lose. tried before and lost a stone. i cant join a gym as I don't have much balance due to head injury. nor can I run .due to muscleleton problems......need some help here.am on omeprazole tablets and probiotics as well as vitamins.....

Hey Wendy and welcome! If you´re eating healthily in general and are still having weight problems the problem might just be portion size - which you could check by counting calories on every bite and sip for a week, comparing them to the amount recommended by the NHS BMI calculator and seeing what your weight does in that time. If that doesn´t do the trick it might be worth cutting back on carbs and having those calories in fat instead. I´d start with the first option as it doesn´t reduce your food choices, but in the end everyone has to find their own way.

hello and thankyou .yes maybe some of my food portions are a bit big. say like I had some fish fingers left over from sunday lunch with grandchildren then I added peas/potatoes/2 ozs cheese and steamed the lot......yes I could use a smaller bowl.. today first day out after gall bladder removal. breakfast was an apple. and a banana milkshake. lunch was chicken(soy) sandwich with strawberries and lemon flavoured water(fresh lemons). tea was two dry slices of fruit bread ,and lots of water. if I am still hungary later I got rice cakes. and more fruit .i think exercise would be more important after my convelesance of 4 weeks from gall bladder op

Exercise is great for a lot of things but your diet is the most important factor in what you eat. Are you still on a medically prescribed diet after your surgery? Because what I see in your listing is fruit, sugar, carbs with a little protein, more fruit, and more carbs, this time with dried fruit. In short: tons of carbs, very little protein and no veggies at all. If that´s an exception because you´re still recovering I can understand that but if it were to be a normal day I´d personally be hungry all the time while gaining weight as well.

I have a problem with raw veg it gets stuck in my throat due to a stricture , I can steam them and eat them. but raw food tends to get stuck.so what are carohydrates like potatoes you mean. I don't eat junk food like burgers pizza etc ,I love jacket potatoes.....I cant eat pastries /cakes etc either.they make me feel sick.

I can´t eat most veggies raw either, so I usually either bake them in the oven or just stir-fry them. Fruits have carbohydrates, also bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, root vegetables... Now fruit is healthy and so is whole grain bread/pasta, potato, and brown rice, but they don´t tend to keep you full as long as protein and fat do, which is a problem if you want to lose weight.

Some people have to cut down on carbs quite a bit to be able to lose weight but others do just fine with a reasonable portion. For me a portion is 50 g of pasta or grains, weighed before cooking, and the rest of my meal will be vegetables, beans or animal protein (I get a very sore stomach if I eat mock meats), and some nuts&seeds for fat. If you have a look at the daily diary section you will find a lot of examples of what people will typically eat in a day!

I can spot the problem foods immediately, Wendy and have highlighted them for you. Fatty liver disease isn't caused by dietary fat, but by carbohydrates. Whilst fruit is considered healthy, if you have any sort of insulin resistance, then the fructose is going to cause you problems. Please read the pdf I've given you the link to in your other post.

If you read the pdf I gave you the link for, it will give you an idea of a good way to eat.

Welcome! I see others have commented on your diet and made some suggestions. I will just say come on to the forum frequently, join in the chat and the challenges, take it week by week and you will get there. Good luck!

Great to have you along! How about you keep up your walking and just up the pace for a minute or two during the walks?

Best wishes to you ♥️

I have watched this brilliant video several times, it is so true for me and explains so clearly why I gained weight. Every time I watch it I understand a little more , it also explains why I am less hungry after losing weight and changing to a lower carb / higher fat diet.

Thank you for putting it on this site again, are this series of videos available on the right hand menu, if not could they be put there.

You could make a nice vegetable soup and blend it all down so it’s easy to eat. That would fill you up a bit.

Hi and welcome I would say same as everyone else eat less carbs, try just having bread just once a day it's working for me and has done in past. I would still feel hungry after what you had for day. Hope all the tips help and good luck with your loss

Hi Wendy, I too struggle with the veggies, so I make a smoothie with kale, coconut water, spinach, banana, add a small avacado to make it creamy ! Yes it looks green but honestly it's good. I vary the fruit to raspberries, blueberries etc, if anyone thinks I shouldn't be doing this , please let me know.
