Going on holiday blues

I’m very happy with the way my NHS Healthy Eating plan is going so far; I’m on my 8th week and lost over a stone in weight. I prepare my food so I know exactly what I’m having.

However I will be going on holiday in a weeks time and I’m dreading to think how I will be able to control what I’m having without labels on all the food. I’m away for a week, should I just ‘live it up’? I don’t want to come back and realise I’ve put the weight back on.

Any advice anyone please?

Thanks.

Great going on your weight loss to date. I'm sure one of the admins will update your badge accordingly.

Try not to dread your holiday. It's probably true that you won't be able to maintain the strict control that you've maintained up until now and know exactly how many cals you're consuming. However, you can still enjoy yourself without 'living it up'. After 8 weeks of your journey so far, you will already have a fair understanding of what your portion sizes are likely to be.

At the same time, it's a holiday and if you come back a couple of pound heavier, you know you have the tools to turn that around and it will be gone in quick time.

Well done on your weight loss so far :)

A holiday is meant to be a happy time, I would suggest that you enjoy your holiday but be mindful and choose wisely and have a great time :)

Yes by not being strict and counting exactly you may put on 2 - 4lb but get back on the wagon as soon as you get back and you will loose that again in no time :)

HAVE a GREAT HOLIDAY :)

Hi and well done on your journey so far...

Holidays are for relaxing and recharging and seeing a new or familiar place...

So get excited and start planning what you'd like to do, where you'd like to go and what you'd like to see whilst your away...

Consider what facilities are available local to where your staying that you can make use of... walking, swimming, a gym, along with transport options.

You are obviously not self catering - so look at menus the same as you would here for an evening out and choose wisely.. but also be adventurous to try things new to you.. Most of all Enjoy and allow excitement to take the place of the blues!

I agree with others Noms, there is no reason to fear a change in routine, just be mindful of portion size 😊 after all these weeks you will have learnt valuable skills, trust yourself. And when you get home get straight back onto plan

Have a lovely holiday!

Well done on your amazing weightloss. Where are you off to on holiday?

I have had a few holidays during my weightloss journey. Here are some tips:

Move everyday..walk, swim, jog. Whatever fits in with the holiday and your companions.

Limit sweet treats, fried foods and alcohol to one per day or days when you are more active (that is an incentive to get up early and go for a walk before breakfast).

Eats lots of veg with your meals as much as possible.

If you know that you will be having heavy hotel meals, try not to eat in between.

You can't do that much damage in a week. A lovely week of rest and relaxation and fun.

Enjoy :)

Thank you for all the advice, we’ve planned a relaxing beach holiday in the Algarve, so I won’t be doing too much. Will definitely walk etc everyday, and try to fill up on veggies etc avoiding fried food as much as possible. I don’t drink anyway so that will be easy, I guess I’m just tempted with the local food that will be on offer and ICE CREAM!!!

I love the AAlgarve, and found the food very healthy, lots of lovely fresh produce 😊

My favourite would be the Cataplana, a fish stew with a baby clams, but try to limit the crusty bread needed for all the yummy juice!!

Have a super time

Think it was whatever the fishermen had left over at the end of the day, but very yummy 😊

Thank you so much for the advice everyone, I’ve returned from a lovely break in the Algarve. The weather was gorgeous and we did loads of walking.

We had to eat out every single day so I used to fill up on breakfast at 10:00hrs with cereal and scrambled eggs and then have fruit during the day with another meal at around 17:00hrs including Ice Cream.

Despite visiting a restaurant every day including buffets, I was in a shock when I weighed myself upon my return.

I’ve actually lost 2lbs!!!

I guess it must be all that walking (we averaged around 11,000 steps a day).

To say I’m pleased would be an understatement!!!
