Horray! I am a huge fan of Dr Rangan Chattergee (he of the TV programme "Doctor in the House".
He's recently been speaking a lot about "lifestyle medicine" and the fact that doctors could be doing more to help their patients by teaching them to effect changes in their healthy by making changes to their lifestyle (diet and exercise). This can brign about improvements in mood, pain, etc.
It seems that it just might be happening! Hoping it's ok to post a YouTube video link here....
Tx very much for that, Pineapple27 - I was so interested in your clip that I went on to watch the Ted Talk on YouTube that followed it - he's an inspiring speaker. It would be nice to think that within the next 10 years every surgery in the UK had a lifestyle specialist in their team, don't you think? As Dr C suggests, the cost of the extra training would be more than compensated for by the easing of the burden on the NHS from certain chronic but preventable diseases. Tx again for the post 👍
Somethings got to happen... the NHS has less resources and many more people needing health care - many for preventable diseases!
Many individuals are treated with pills and potions - and miss out on the vital information / education that may enable them to turn their life around....
Absolutely agree - good lifestyle habits could easily and usefully be taught in schools too, I would have thought, though would have to fight for space in the curriculum in our qualification obsessed education system....
I think he’s great too - helping people help themselves through lifestyle changes rather than just reaching for another pill. Glad to hear that you are making progress - if only we could all ‘see’ what a fabulous thing our skeleton is we might treat it better!
