Hi, this is my first post...so sorry if this is a stupid question!

I tend to go out for meals at the weekend with my friends...if I ate less calories in the week...could I put them towards the weekend?

Or is that not how it works? Sorry again if this a stupid question 😳xx

Welcome Sel24

This is an amazing forum to be part of. Lots of people on here have different areas of concern but we are all trying to get to, or maintain, a desired weight. As you get to know us, and share experiences with us, you will find what a super supportive bunch we are and that we don't pass judgements.

Here are a few suggestions about how to get the most out of the forum. If you are using the new HU App (helpful when you are out and about), many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news; and you will have important news to share with us.

Have a look at the NHS 12-week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This can be a major turning point, realising you can eat anything as long as the calories are accounted for.

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate; that happens to me quite regularly!

The forum also has group weigh-ins every day, as well as a Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page.

If you just want to chat, to say hello, or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread. There are many other challenges to get involved with, just choose to do what you are comfortable with.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly.

If you have any questions please just ask. The more you join in and connect with people the more you get out of the forum.

I wish you well as you get started with a new lifestyle.

Hi Sel24. It is not a stupid question and I would say yes. Work out how many calories you can have for the week and go from there

Hi Sel 24 there is no such thing as a stupid question. Lots of people save calories or adjust days so that they can fit in special meals, everyone is different and what works for you might not work for others. The only thing that would worry me personally about still having higher calorie meals was that I may want to resort back to that way of eating. I have tried over the months to stop eating unhealthy foods, even when I am out, usually choosing a healthier choice but as I said we are all different what works for one may not work for another, so do what suits you and works for you. Good luck on your journey.

In principle, yes you can "bank" some calories during the week in order to have extra at the weekends. It works for many, and in many ways this is better planning than having a binge first then trying to cut down afterwards.

As long as your weekday meals are healthy and not too low in calories ( you shouldn't eat less than your BMR) then yes you can save some to add to the weekend.

One thing I would also do as well is look up the company I am going to and see if they have any information about their nutritional information of calories on the website. There are more and more companies putting this information out there and then it gives you even more choices for you to go for, as sometimes it is how bigger plateful they give you of the stuff as well as how healthy it is. I try and do this a few days before so I can try other options if not like contacting the company to ask if they know this info. Some of them if it is just me and my husband going I will then say to them, oh if you can't give me this information I will cancel this and go elsewhere, this information is important to people's health. One of them put this information on their menu in store after about a month. The more we let know about these sort of things the better.
