Hi Everyone, I am new here...

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. For the past 6 years I have struggled with my weight. My weight increased rapidly after I had pancreatitis in 2011, I was a size 14/16 and weighed around 13 stone which is fine for a 6ft female. Within the space of a year to 2 years, the weight piled on dramatically and I am now a size 24 and weight between 20-21 stone. I eat healthily and do my 10,000 steps per day, I have PCOS, impaired fasting glycaemia and low white blood cells and platelets. I have lost all confidence, it is affecting every part of my life. I am seeing 5 different specialists but no one can figure out what has happened and why I can't lose the weight.

Hi LA1980

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

Hi LA1980 what is great about this forum is that many people here are committed to a healthier lifestyle. Weight loss is a part of that but not the be all and end all. I see that as an important mindset because I am a very slow loser and really need to focus in on the great lengths I have gone to to be healthier. 😀 Good luck on your journey

Hi LA1980 this is a great place to help you gain more confidence or at least that is what I have found. I think doing the 12 week plan they have would be good too. I dont have any real problems except the old thyroid one and people kept writing on other sites how they couldnt lose weight. Well here with all the encouragement and support I have lost a little and remember a little is great. So keep posting and keep sharing:) :)

Thank you. To be honest I am a bit overwhelmed by the responses and support by strangers (at this point). I can't believe I didn't know about this site until I stumbled upon it yesterday.

I am currently dealing with a painful and heavy period so am hoping to start week 1 on Monday which should give me time to do a shop and prep. Looking forward to starting this and feeling positive. :)

I was also overwhelmed with such wonderful and positive replies but now realise that it is so important to have them and give them back. It gives you a strength and shows you that we are not the only ones who have been struggling and we are not alone and that we can share so much. I have only been here for a couple of weeks but feel so much better and know if I lose weight there are hurrahs and if I dont there is lots of encouragement to keep going. Oh hope that your painful period settles down and remember if not go to the doctor. :) :)

Have you had a look at how many calories you are and should be eating. Many people have had this problem when they first joined including myself. I was then told about this by an old member from this site, changed what I was doing and then managed to lose weight. Including people who have been eating healthy as well. I found out that previously I was not actually eating enough calories in a day. If you have a look on the NHS bmi calculator this gives you amounts you should be eating to be able to lose weight. You get two amounts that will be higher than you think. Providing you eat somewhere between these two amounts you will be able to lose weight. If you actually eat less than these amounts your body thinks you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please make sure you are not making this mistake as I made this for years and could never understand why I was putting this weight on. Hope you do manage to lose weight ok and have a good journey.
