Hello everyone. I'm very very new to this. Feels kinda strange but giving it a go. I've put on a lot of weight recently. Over 10 kgs. Was overweight before this so now weigh 162kgs which is near 26 stones. Lost my way and I feel this community can best support me. I hope it can. Seen really good comments so far and I will be encouraging to all. I'm ready to go.

Hi richlionking and welcome to the weight loss forum :)

You have made the first big step by coming here, so well done for doing so :)

You will find lots of support and friendly advice here and will never be on your own, as we are all on the same journey.

One of the Administrators will reply to you later on now. One of them are usually on here from 7am - 10pm. They will be able to advise you and give you lots of tips etc, which are very useful.

Wishing you all the best with your weight loss journey :)

Hi and welcome richlionking - loving the username :)

We are a very supportive group and all here for the same reason to lose weight or maintain our weight (wish I was one of the latter, but one day soon I hope ;) )

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey :)

Welcome to the site richlionking. You're saying you have a fair bit to lose, well it's all got to start with that first pound. To get into losing weight instead of gaining it you need to look at your lifestyle and food habits and make changes so that your daily intake is slightly under what your body requires to run. Good tip is to not try to change everything at once, you will most likely end up craving everything you've quit. The tools to do it are all here, it's a bit of a pain counting calories to start with but you soon get into the swing of it, it's not rocket science.

That weight didn't appear overnight, and it's not going to disappear overnight, your path to success is all about eating healthier, upping exercise and making sure you're running at that slight deficit that will force your body to used stored energy (fat) rather than food for fuel. Prepare yourself for the long haul, healthy loss rate is 1 to 2 lb a week, though people with more to lose can and do exceed that, the closer you get to your goal the slower the weight loss goes.

I'm looking to lose 100 lbs, it's going to take anything from 1 to 2 years, but I am already feeling the benefits of the losses I have made already, which is spurring me on.

You don't have to exclude anything on this plan, you just have to account for it in your allowance, though obviously some foods are better than others, you can still have a fish and chip supper or whatever your favorite treat is, it just needs to be within your calorie limit.

Remember, there's a big difference between what your body needs to be healthy and what you want, ask yourself this before you put anything in your mouth, do you need it, or do you want it? When you want to be a healthy size and weight more than you want that large pizza and garlic bread and slice of cheesecake you will be on the way to success.

I agree keep reading posts on here. I suggest that for first week you write everything you eat down without attempting to diet. Think of it as life style change as opposed to a diet. Don't think of losing so many stone work to eat healthier and aim for 5% of body weight reduction. In some areas local health authorities run programs for people who have a lot of weight to lose and it might be worth checking to see if there is anything in your area.Good Luck

Thanks Rossie. I like your idea. I'm gonna write down what i eat this week and see what i really eat. I think it will very well shock me. 🙃

Hi richlionking welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy yourself and hope all goes well for you. Do have a look at the NHS bmi calculator as this gives you calories you should go between to be able to lose weight. These amounts are a lot higher than you would expect them to be. Do make sure you have been eating enough calories in general as well, because I wasn't even eating enough calories when not on diets let alone when I was. I found this out on here, If you don't eat enough your body thinks your starving it and turns what you are eating into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Since I found this out I have upped my calories and managed to lose 2st and become a lot firmer as the fat is slowly disappearing when I always struggled before to lose weight and always looked fattier no matter what I weighed this was why. Don't make this same mistake. Good luck with your journey.

Thanks focusbest. I've just recently come back to this. Had a severe knee injury and just got back into walking again. So giving health unlocked another go for motivation. The posts on here are very positive and do help. And we can do this! 😀
