My Liver's Seldom had it so good - and its getting better! :-)

disgustingfatbody profile image

Well, here I am, a whole 21 days now without a single Alcoholic drink passing my lips and still no visible side effects. :-)

With each passing day, I’m finding that I have more energy and a more positive attitude to life in general. Yesterday – Thursday – was a bad day, as I had to take one of our cats to be put to sleep, but she’d had a good long life and it was for the best. ☹ But I didn’t drink and I didn’t comfort eat, so that’s a plus. 😊

Another 7 days and I’ll be looking to start on my weight reduction plan. I’ll try to find somewhere I can weigh myself before I start and then will try to lose 1-2 lbs per week for the next 52 weeks – watch this space! LOL

Best of luck to all those trying to make life-changes. As they say ‘Nothing worth doing is easy, but if you REALLY want to do it, you will!’

It's so easy after a hard day at work to open that bottle of wine I'm afraid it's my weakness

I know the feeling. :-( If it helps you cope, stay with it - but perhaps try a lower strength option. :-)

Thanks. Days on and off don't work for me. If it works for you, go with it. :-)

Well done DFB! That's great news! I felt the same when I ditched the cigs! We don't realise the impact our vices have on our bodies, until we get rid of them and then we reap the benefits :)

Keep up the great work and give that liver of yours an extended holiday :)

Thanks. I gave up 'the Demon Weed' 21 years ago. But you know what? Even now - very rarely I admit - I still fancy a Tar-Stick! LOL

I honestly believe, 'once an addict, always an addict'.

An alcoholic is only ever in recovery, never cured and I think ex-smokers and ex-eaters are the same, on the whole :)

I agree. Although after 21 years as an EX smoker, I feel I've probably got past the worst. :-)

Let's hope so! :D

I thought that if anything might trigger a relapse, it would be the death of my Mother. But I was (pleasantly) surprised that when she died, I never even gave smoking a thought! :-)

Even after 2 years, I would be more likely to turn to food for comfort, than nicotine, now.

Food is by far the most evil of addictions, because, unfortunately, we can't give it up completely.

I'm trying to do the same & am really noticing the lack of a headache the next morning. I was even feeling a bit rough after a single glass of wine so I know that it wasn't due to excessive drinking 😩 I will still have a glass of wine occasionally but will budget for in with my calories 😀

As I've said before, whatever works for YOU - within reason - is the way for YOU to go. :-)

I still have a drink now and again, but have cut down considerably. Result being I'm such a cheap date, one drink and I'm anybody's!!! Lol 😊

Ps Offer to be designated driver, save calories and gain friends 😊

Lol , I've always been a lightweight anyway but I'm getting even more susceptible to drink now. Unfortunately I can't drive so can't be a designated driver 😩

Me too, this is now my ninth day, after a very busy June with social events every weekend 2 weekends both days!! I have decided that all July is going to be alcohol free. I've lost 2 lbs so far, sleeping great to be honest and getting up a lot better and brighter in the mornings.

Well done to you!! And good luck with it. 😊

Good to hear it. I nearly weakened and had a pint today, while I was out with my other half. But the moment has passed. :-)

We're going out with friends next Saturday evening, so I reckon a couple of Pints then will be my treat. :-)

If I find I go back to drinking in quantity, then I'll just give it up - full-stop! :-(

Sunny Sunday afternoons are so hard, especially when you see the world and his wife sat outside drinking. Sun will be going down soon so no more temptations, well done to you again!! Enjoy next week's treat you deserve it.

Well done, and this is from somebody for whom the not-so-occasional tipple is the worst offender in her diet. At the moment I am cutting down rather than out, but it's a slippery slope, especially on a long evening in front of TV.

Well, here I am on day 14. This evening, I'll have been alcohol-free for 2 full weeks! :-)

Before I start on a weight-loss programme, I plan to stay off the 'Pop' for another 14 days. That way, I should be craving - free and used to drinking mainly water. :-)

All the best to everyone who is trying to change things for the better. :-)
