Are you doing it on your own initiative or doing a diet or the NHS 12 week plan?

Hello. I have just downloaded the 12 week plan to try. Hope it is manageable!

I am on it= though I have extended it since I haven't acheived my target weight but very close (only 1kg) A lot of people use Map My fitness app to help with the calorie counting (I think that is the name). Plan a head for the week (the plan has link to calorie counter) and if you have certain meals frequently add the calories up and keep a record so next time you just add the total calorie for the meal rather than the individual ingredients. Hope that helps

Can i ask a question? Because i am quite big i have looked at the BMI and my calorie allowance is quite a bit higher. I can use the amount for my BMI is that right?

Correct. Perceived wisdom on this forum is to consume closer to the higher end of the range. Initially it may well be a bit of try and see to find out what works for you.

Ask a question any time, its good to know :)

The NHS plan advises 1400 calories per day for women for loosing weight- so maybe try that for a month and if you consistently loosing 1-2lbs per week then keep to it until you reach your target weight then increase gradually intake. If you are loosing more than 2lb then maybe aim for the lower range of calorie intake recommended based on your BMI?

Good luck and welcome

Hi Saramac123

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

It sounds like you may have done what I used to do in the past if your calorie intake with bmi being a lot higher. Any diets I had joined in the past was never working for me and on here I found out that this was because I was never eating enough calories in a day that my bmi range needed to keep me going. I was only eating a sandwich for lunch and my dinner. This was because I was always wanting to be thinner. I could never understand why everyone else that was bigger than me always ate more and I was the fatter one. It turns out I found out on here that my problem was I wasn't eating enough calories in a day so eating even less for diets was never a good thing to do either. My body and brain thought I was starving it so it turned anything I did eat into body fat to keep it going for the future. Body fat weighs more than calories do so I put on weight and got bigger all the time. Now since I have been on here, I am finally eating more and losing weight. I know this sounds strange but it is true. Try to eat the higher amount of calories and you can re-check your calories on the bmi calculator every few weeks and gradually lower them to what it says as it changes. I have managed to lose almost 2st since being on here. It's great and I am so happy. Good luck Saramac123 with your journey and all the best.
