Wrong time of year??

Hi All just wanted to say hello!!, I am the typical yo yo dieter and having tried many different diets over the last god knows how many years I am giving this a try. I have never been a calorie counter and thinks thats my issue as I don't really understand the calorie contents of foods I am eating. I am disgusted in myself as my BMI is 39 and I need to lose 7st 9lb to be in the middle of the healthy BMI range so its going to be a long haul. I would like if possible to have a stone off by Christmas which works around 2lb a week but with all the temptation around at this time of year its going to be difficult!!!

Hi vickylou I myself have just started the journey of losing 8 stone, Christmas is going to be difficult I am worried as that is my weakest part of the year I'm constantly thinking how the food really compliments the season and I get bit carried away, I need to get through one Christmas successfully! All the best to you.

Hi Vickylou85,

Welcome to the NHS Weight Loss Forum here on HealthUnlocked - this forum is a great place for support, motivation and inspiration to lose weight. :)

Take a look at the NHS 12 Week Plan, it contains recipes and exercise plans to follow for the first twelve weeks of your journey. :D

Take a look at the left of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile device) and find the 'Pinned Posts' section, here you can find various challenges that are going on in the forum (take part in whatever ones take your fancy - if any do at all!), there is also a recipe collation there and any important posts from Admin

Also to your left is the 'Topics' area, here you can find posts related to each topic, it's good if you are looking for something specific

The Monday Group Weigh In takes place weekly and is posted alternately by Zest and moreless (I suggest you follow them, they are also our site admins), a morning session post is put live just before 06:30 and runs until midday, while the afternoon session runs from midday until 18:00 on the Friday of that week - it'll be running as usual tomorrow, so, if you wish, you can go and post your starting weight there! :P

All that remains is to wish you a great first week on the forum - be involved because it's where we get our boost each day

Rob :D

It's not the EASIEST time of year to start :) but sometimes it's important to start NOW rather than putting it off as it can get put off several times :) on the bright side if you can succeed at this when it's such a hard time of year, you'll be able to succeed no matter what comes your way as nothing packs on the pounds for me the way that Christmas and winter does :)

Best of luck!

Hi and welcome Vickylou :)

Unfortunately, there will always be temptations, Christmas, birthdays, Easter, weddings, parties, holidays, weekends, it's something that we have to learn to deal with and navigating them successfully, is what we're all learning how to do :)

There will inevitably be some bumps along the way, but it's the overall progress that we need to focus on. Stick around, because it's much easier when we do it together :)

Wishing you all the best and hope to see you at the weigh-in tomorrow :)

Don't think about Christmas yet! Its ages away and you can achieve a lot before then. Make lots of home made soups to help you get started as they are low in calories and easy to take to work for lunches. Organise meals one week at a time so your not wondering what to have at short notice .By the time you do 3 weeks you will be in a routine and feel more positive I'm sure , wish you luck.
