Hello everyone,

This is my first time using an online weightloss forum and I hope to be able to both seek and offer advice and motivation.

I'm in need of a kick. At 16st 5lb I am currently the heaviest I've ever weighed in my entire life (I'm 40 years old) and I can't quite believe I've let myself get to this point. I've also become unfit in the extreme. It all stems from a back injury that I had for a few years (which I've now recovered from). My weight and lack of fitness got so bad during this time that it now seems overwhelming to undo things.

My healthy usual weight is 10 to 10.5 stone. I've lost weight several times in the past (usually going from c. 13 stone to 10 stone) and have always used a combination of calorie counting (c. 1500 calories a day), eating mostly unprocessed food and lots of veg and exercise and this has always worked well for me.

So here goes. Any motivation tips from people who have managed to lose around 6.5 stone would be really welcome and hopefully I'll be in a position to be offering tips to others soon.

Look forward to chatting with you all x

Well ive not lost that much , but there is plenty support on here .Am sure you can do it .I have been on and off diets for years to and was my heaviest before starting this .I started 4 months ago regular exercise 3 times a week and am quite active at work luckily. You are never on your own and that is why the forum is so good .

Good luck with your journey!

I'm sure more experienced losers will be around shortly to greet you and offer some advice on getting started. I am a mere newbie myself and just want to welcome you and let you know that you have found the most supportive and friendly place I have ever encountered on the internet. Quite extraordinary! So stick around :-)

Hi mrslp and welcome to this very friendly forum 😀

You have have definitely come to the right place for motivation and advice. I have nearly lost my 2stone target and truly believe it is down to the lovely people on this forum. Get involved as much as you can as this spurs you on to achieve your goals. It hasn't been easy and ive had a few bad wks but have found if you share on here you get so much support you come out the other side and will start loosing weight again 💗

I have followed the nhs12wk plan and tweeked my food to fit around the family.

Alot of us use myfitnesspal to log calories (or good old pen and paper does the trick) be as truthful as you can and eat the lower end of the recommended allowance on the nhs calorie allowance checker (not myfitnesspal amount as can be very low). Sounds like you have already had success before ... and you will again 👍

Good luck. Claire x

Thanks so much for the great advice. Will check out the nhs calorie allowance checker. MFP is great for tracking but I agree the calorie allowances are too restrictive. Well done with your weight loss. Xx

The only way I could cope when faced with the need to lose 9 stone, was to take it a half a stone at a time, it is much less daunting. So far, having lost nearly 7 stones (or 14 half stones, hahaha), it is working.

I also had non-scale related goals, like being light enough for my bike frame, being able to run, being able to get into a certain size of clothing, etc. There are always goals to aim for and that keeps me going.

Anyway, best of luck - you can do this!
