Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 6.6 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 6.8 pounds, so I've gained 0.2 pound this week. I had set myself the goal to lose 2 pounds this week, so as you can see, I have NOT achieved it. I had my period all week, so I am hoping that the slight weight gain is down to that.
I pre-planned most of my meals, and I stuck to regular daily exercise (walking) - and I also did some exercises for my core strength as well. So I felt I worked quite hard this week, and also last week too. I did have quite a heavy meal last night though.
My goals for this week are to continue what I've been doing, and hope that eventually the weight will come off. I'm due to take my measurements tomorrow, so maybe there will be some changes there which are not necessarily showing on the scales.
I am hoping for that elusive 2 pound weight loss by next week. Good luck to everyone with your goals, and please join me and share your experiences.

Hi lowcal, im sure it must be period weight if you've been eating well and exercising. I hope you see it come off next week.
I've stayed the same this week which I'm a bit bummed about although it was to be expected. I had two birthdays this week and although one did include an hours session at a trampoline park they both had big meals and alcohol.
I'm hoping to lose 2 pounds next week to counteract my lack of weight loss the last 2 weeks.
Well done for maintaining your weight, despite those two Birthday celebrations with big meals and alcohol - you could have easily put it on instead. The hour's session at the trampoline park sounds good fun!
Good luck with your goal to lose 2 pounds this week - hopefully next Monday you'll be 2 pounds lighter.
Thanks for your encouraging words - I am going to persevere, and hopefully will see a loss again on the scales.
Oh no! Sorry to hear you've gained 2 pound overnight - I can understand your irritation, but try not to let it scupper your progress to date. You will soon get it off again, so just focus and have a great week ahead! You might know where that gain has come from - and hopefully it is easy to rectify and move forwards.
I'm definitely finding the start of this year quite challenging too - are you following the 12 week NHS plan? It's definitely got lots of good advice and a good structure too.
Hopefully you'll be leaving the 12's behind by next week, and on your way towards your ultimate goal.
Just getting my head around this site. Signed up in January but just assumed that my weight would naturally decline post christmas (I put on about a stone in 6 weeks). Sadly this has not been the case! I've printed off the 12 week plan and going to put it into action starting today. Over my worst hurdle - the getting in from work phase with out hitting them at cakes & cheese! Fruit & nuts only.
Glad you've found the 12 week plan, it should hopefully help as it's a definite structure, and there are quite a few people on the site who have used it with success. Good to hear you've overcome your first hurdle, and hope you have a great week.
just wrote a message and thin ive lost it!! sorry about the gain but it is tiny and brilliant you arent letting it get you down. its not just about losing weight and doing regular exercise is a great way towards a long term healthy lifestyle. i have managed to lose a pound so am back to where i was two weeks ago, 13st 7 lb. so im happy wiht that. take care and i am sure this week will be better, keep up the good work. sidcup 1
Sorry to hear you lost your first message - it's frustrating when that happens, isn't it. You're right, it's definitely about a long-term healthy lifestyle, and that doesn't always show up on the scales. Thanks for your kind words.
Congratulations to you on 1 pound loss - that's really great!
Wishing you another good week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal, you've had a better week than me at least, as I have gained 1lb. I was 12st1 last week and now 12st2 this week. I've been doing the couch to 5k and cycled into town twice during the week. However, I'm not going to pretend I've been following a diet. I've been vaguely being healthy, but that's clearly not working. I cut down the cheese on pasta as I meant to from last week, but I need to be really focussed every day this week, having loads of salad, less alcohol, etc. I am optimistic that all the exercise will pay off soon though. Good luck for another determined week
Sorry to hear you gained 1 pound this week, but hopefully you'll soon get that off again. Great that you've been continuing with the Couch to 5K and also your cycling. Both great exercise. Well done for cutting down your cheese portions on the pasta. I am also being more careful with my cheese consumption - but it does make food really tasty so I won't cut it out completely.
You sound focussed for this week, and I'm sure that determination will pay off, so here's to a great week ahead! Like you say, let's have a 'determined week' ahead.
Last Monday I weighed 12st 1lb, today I weigh 12st 0lb ... I have lost 1lb this week and I am ridiculously happy with that!!! I have stuck to the plan all week and not wavered over the weekend. The scales had stayed resolutely the same, so I had been convinced I wouldn't lose anything this week, hence being delighted with my 1lb this morning ... Here goes week 3!!!!
Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week - that's really great!!! Well done for sticking to the plan all week and also particularly well done for not wavering on the weekend - you've done brilliantly! Glad those scales budged in the end, to reflect your hard work.
Hope you have a really good 'week 3', and that you enjoy it. You're close to leaving those 12's behind - very exciting!
Oh no, sorry to hear you've gained a pound, despite sticking to your calories all week and exercising every day. It's frustrating, isn't it. I definitely empathise with you. But maybe you are gaining a bit of muscle - and that would weigh a bit more.
Do no despair, just keep going - you'll get there - we must just stay determined and stick to our healthy eating plans and exercise goals.
Wishing you another good week ahead, and hopefully a good outcome for all of us at next week's weigh-in.
I have been remiss lately, can't remember the last time I was on here. Period weight is a pain but it does go quick quickly, sure you'll lose those 2lbs for next week. I also find that some weeks I think i've done really well but I haven't lost anything then weeks where i've done very little I seem to lose quick a bit, so next week will be better.
Last week I weighed 13st 3lbs and this week I weigh 13st 10lbs. Needless to say I have been off the wagon,, it started with a family meal last weekend where I made a pig of myself, the food was so lovely I kept going until i'd cleared my plate, and it was a big plate. I have also been hungry all week. I've been at this for nearly a year now and have never been so hungry, I was eating a big breakfast, lunch and then dinner when I got home, then snacks. I also haven't been exercising as much recently, my path home started freezing over and I was so sick of sliding all over that I got a bus pass, big mistake. Now half a stone heavier in one week it's time to get back on the wagon. I went for a walk yesterday which I really enjoyed, I haven't really been doing much exercise for the last 2 months so I really felt that 6 mile walk. I'd really like to start jogging again, I haven't jogged since Christmas. I tried doing an exercise dvd on Saturday and gave up after 5 minutes so plan to persevere with that. I feel really bad as I've had a lot of comments this past week about how much weight i've lost and i've actually gained this week.
I did treat myself to a new pair of pjamas this weekend, hopefully that will also be incentive to keep losing, or at least stop gaining.
Good luck to everyone, wishing you all a successful week of losing.
It's really good to see you again - and thanks for the update on how things have been for you. I know how much the walking to work was benefitting you - it's a pity that the weather made the path freeze over - I can understand you not wanting to risk slipping over on a frozen path. Most people would have got a bus pass in that circumstance. At least it should hopefully improve weather-wise as we get further into Spring. The clock's will be changing at the end of the month, and then it should be much lighter at both ends of the day and hopefully warmer too.
It's great to hear you've had lots of positive comments about your weight loss - so please don't let this week's gain stop you from enjoying those comments - you've earned them - you have made amazing progress over the months, and you've lost lots of weight. This recent gain will soon come off again - I'm glad you've got those pyjamas as an incentive, and I can hear a lot of positives in your post today - you're hoping to start jogging again, and you really enjoyed the walk you had yesterday.
Are you pre-planning your meals? I find that is very helpful to have a plan and it helps me to stick to it better. Ensuring you have balanced meals that are 'satisfying' is also helpful. It can be worth the time to pre-plan, because it can be time-saving in the long run and effective.
Glad you're back in the Monday weigh-in, and here's to a positive week ahead. Wishing you a great week.
I'd pre-planned the meals then lost control of myself and ended up with take away. The annoying thing is that i'd made a load of broth the weekend before and had defrosted that for a couple of nights then decided I couldn't be bothered waiting while it warmed so got takeaway, which actually involves more waiting while that cooks. It was sheer laziness on my part. I love broth as well, I did have it the following days but the damage had been done.
It has been an eye opener to see just how quickly the weight can come back on. I'm also kind of hoping that i'm about to have an early period and some of this is hormonal weight. I figure since i've done it once I can do it again then I can get into the 12s
I agree, it is so easily done to get tempted by the take-away option, despite all good intentions to have healthy broth etc, but maybe your choices were driven by your hormones a bit, and you craved something more 'substantial' - that happens to me sometimes. It might be hormonal weight gain. It went on quickly, and I think it will also disappear quickly as long as you're back on track again, and I think you sound motivated and keen to have a good week - yes, we'll hopefully both be in the 12s before long!
Good morning Lowcal, 0.2 lbs is nothing! Probably it's the meal you had last night. I'm sorry to report I have gained 2.2 pounds, due to a horrible week at work, to the lack of exercise and to getting my period as well. I'm not happy about it, as I had been losing so little and so slowly, but that's life. I didn't go back into my old habits of sweets/chocolates/cakes/pizza but have been eating pasta/rice/bread practically every day. I had 2240 calories on Saturday, but the rest of the days I was under the 1400 calorie limit, so I thought I would at least maintein my weight, but well, that didn't happen.
Really sorry to hear you've had a horrible week at work, and that you've also had your period to contend with, and haven't been able to exercise as much. I think the 2240 calorie day on Saturday has probably contributed to your weight gain, and the fact you've kept your calories under 1400 for the remainder of the week means you've stayed on track for most of the week - which is great. Hopefully that 2.2 gain will come off again as quickly as it went on, and next week you'll be looking at a loss on the scales.
You also commented that you didn't go back to your old habits of sweets/chocolates/cakes/pizza. I know you've had pasta/rice/bread each day, but carbohydrates are ok as part of a balanced diet. I usually have jacket potatoes, or pasta, or rice or bread each day, but I choose the wholegrain varieties to ensure I get as much fibre as possible within those carbs.
Keep going and you'll see some more good progress really soon. Don't give up hope. Stay positive!
Hi Lowcal I had a bad week! Put on just over 2lb. Oops!! Ate more than I thought and not enough exercise. Getting back on track today. Here's to a better week.
Sorry to hear you've had a gain as well - it can be easy to eat more than you think - it all adds up. Do you use Myfitnesspal or some other tracker to count your intake? I find Myfitnesspal is really helpful. I often have to revise it at the end of the day though, as I realise I've 'forgotten' something and need to add it in.
Sounds like you're feeling positive for today and getting back on track. Like you say, here's to a better week ahead.
Keep going I'm sure you will do your 2lbs next week, probably large meal last night didn't help. I went for a curry on thursday and had put a pound on next morning.
I am really pleased this morning as have lost 2lbs this week so one stone loss alltogether in 9 weeks so .5 lbs infront of my target of 1.5 lbs a week I had set myself. I am 13.1 now so looking forward to being 12 something, hopefully in next couple of weeks.
Good luck everyone for a good week, spring is just around the corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week - that's really great!!! Especially great to hear you've lost 1 stone altogether in 9 weeks. I think that's really brilliant. Very inspiring progress. You're getting closer to the 12's - something to look forward to, just like Spring!
I'm sorry to hear about your gain Lowcal! But it is only slight, and you've been going in the right direction with pre planning all your meals, and doing really well with your exercise! I have my fingers crossed for your 2lb loss next week! You will get there!
My week has been good! I'm feeling so pleased with myself! I have lost another 2lbs this week! Down to 12st 8lb which brings me to 5lbs lost since I started lent!
I am hoping I can continue doing what I have given up for lent past lent, until I reach my weight loss goal, but I know it is going to be hard. I do well for lent as its a time scale to stick to. I fear after it is over I will fall apart!
Feeling positive again for the week ahead. Hears hoping to another 2lb loss for Mondays weigh in and I'll be half a stone down.
Thanks so much for your encouraging words, which are much appreciated.
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week - that's really great! Amazing to hear you've lost 5 pounds since starting Lent. Very inspiring, and a good idea to continue with your Lent restrictions until you reach your weight loss goal - sounds like a good plan! Challenge those thoughts that you'll fall apart after Lent finishes - I don't think that will happen!
Good luck with your goal for this week, and wishing you another great week ahead.
Sorry to hear about your slight gain lowcal. I'm sure it will come off next week.
I've managed to stay the same this week, which is good in a way as I have not been as good as I shoukd have been, but bad in that it still leaves me 2 pounds over my goal weight. I have however found my weak point, as I have been finding myself 'grazing' in the evenings when I am watching tv. I need to restart my handicrafts in the evening, as you can't eat whilst you are knitting or doing cross-stitch! I am going to try and cut out snacks again as they have started creeping back in since I have got to target, but I have noticed that on days when I have been busy I have not had a snack and have not missed it!
Well done for maintaining your weight this week. It's very positive that you've been able to locate your 'weak point' in terms of the evening grazing, as that means you can do something about that - and you've got a great plan with regard to restarting your handicrafts. Just think about all the things you'll be able to create with your knitting and cross-stitch. Really good!
Good to hear you've not missed snacks on those days you've been busier.
Thanks for your encouraging words - I really hope to have a loss next week.
Since I was last here the end of October, I was then aiming for the last 4lbs to make a five stone weight loss. My husband and I have since then moved back to the UK, stayed with my folks until after Christmas, moved into a new house and lost all will to exercise, preferring to unpack boxes! Both my parents were seriously under weight and needed fattening up so cooked meals and puds like you can only dream of! Up till then I had only gained two pounds so felt quite pleased with myself. Then three weeks ago my mum died and it all went to pieces.......I just wanted to eat my way out of the misery and sadness until this morning when I finally woke up. I got on those scales and found I had gained a further 8lbs (now 10lbs in total) and I am totally ashamed of myself as I was doing so well.
However, as of today I am back onto My Fitness Pal, hooked out those scales and determined to carry on. Instead of my last weight being 13st 8lbs, it is now 14st 4lbs and need to know that there is no way that I am going back up to the 18st 4lbs that I was at the end of May last year.
So my goal for this week is to get Mum's funeral under my belt and begin the small steps again, aiming to get just below the 14st mark. Thankfully my small clothes still fit!!!
Dear Candystripe so sorry to hear about your mum, but in a way it was good you were back in the UK, hope your dad is bearing up. Your weight loss last year was epic and you are an inspiration, and it's just time to crack on great to see you back, I dont like funerals but my funeral coat is Desigual sometimes I wear it at the weekends just for the sheer hell of it. Stay strong thinking of youxx
Thanks Prin and keep going, just don't follow in my footsteps lol! We have good and bad days but I think after the funeral Dad can move forward. It won't be easy for him but as you rightly say, at least I am here to help him through, just being 10 miles away. Hey ho, upwards and onwards and no more stupid excuses! Desigual here we come (again!) X
Sorry to hear that your Mum has died, and I hope that the funeral goes ok. Be kind to yourself, as you've had a lot on your plate over the past few months in terms of caring for your parents, and moving back to the UK, and especially your Mum's death.
Glad you're back with us and you're sounding keen to get back to losing weight again - but you mentioned taking it step by step which sounds like a very balanced and sensible approach, as you still have a lot to cope with, and grief is by no means easy.
You've only gained 10 pounds - and I don't think that's a huge amount in the scheme of things - you'll soon be back into the 13's again. You've lost an incredible amount of weight since last May, and you've done that against a background of lots of challenges, which only proves how resilient and strong a woman you are!
Anyway, take care and hope things go well this week with your Mum's funeral.
Wishing you a good week, and really pleased you're back again.
Hello folks, bit of a mixed bag aren't we this week. I stayed the same I think at 10.12 which was okay wouldn't mind losing a pound this week. Seem to be grazing in the evenings a bit like catch, I tried to even out my meals a bit more to see if it would make a difference need to cut down on the booze too. Goal for this week cut the grazing! Have a good week
Congratulations for maintaining your weight this week, despite the evening 'grazing'. Good luck with cutting that down this week - if you find any good strategies, let us know! Catch is doing handicrafts as her strategy, which sounds really productive. Good luck with cutting down on your booze consumption too.
had the same issue last week - gained 2lb (as far as i remmember) while on my period. But did my week 1 run on Couch to 5k and kept the diet (week 1) goin. Glad I didnt give up when i put on cuz if i did i might have ganed even more.
Last monday I was 100.3kg (15st 10.4) but now I am 99.3 (15st 8.9). Mid week I was down to 98.3kg (15st 6.7) put on a lil since then but still happy with result. Its been long while since my weight was double-digit (in kg)
Great to see you again. I remember you gained last week due to your period, it definitely seems to affect some people - really great that you did your Week 1 run on the Couch to 5K and kept to your healthy eating plan going. That's really great.
Congratulations on losing weight this week. You've done really well. You've made the transition to the double-digit kgs, that must feel really good!!!
Hi Lowcal periods are always a weigh gain for me too (at least a pound everytime!) so I am sure you have lost really. Measuring is also a good way of telling, I was so surprised when I measured my waist and also clothes feel so much better. I am sure if you persevere you will find you will be rewarded next week! Have a good week.
Thanks for the encouraging words - much appreciated!
Great to hear that you have noticed a difference in your waist measurement and also that your clothes are fitting better - that's really positive! I am going to do my measurements tomorrow - hopefully I'll be able to report a change in them next week at the next Monday weigh-in, along with a weight change as well…
I think you weigh in on Fridays, so I'm going to check out your post to see how you've got on this week.
Hope you have had a good week, and wishing you another great week ahead.
I'm a newbie on here and interested in joining the Monday weigh-in. Since 18 Feb I've lost 7lbs which takes me from 13.5 to 12.12 stones. Was a bit disappointed to weigh in at 12.12 again this week as this was my weight last Monday. However I read your post and many of the replies with folk saying that having your period makes you gain even if you've stuck to the plan so hopefully next Monday we will be able to report a loss.
I'm following the NHS plan and hoping to make a target weight of 9.1 stones as that would put me in the middle of my healthy BMI weight. I know it sounds ambitious but I'm determined to reach my goal and stay there.
Good luck to you and all those other folk out there striving for a healthier mind and body x
A warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in. Great to hear you've lost 7 pounds already since 18th February, that's really good! Glad you've managed to maintain your weight since last Monday, there are definitely weeks when it sticks or goes up a bit, and like you said, several people have commented that they also gain weight during their periods. Hopefully you'll be able to report another loss again next week.
It's great that you're following the NHS plan - I hope you're enjoying it so far. You sound very positive and determined to reach your goal - and the fact you mention 'staying there' is great, because maintenance is also important once you've achieved a goal.
Striving for a healthier mind and body sounds like a great goal. I'm with you on that one!
Shame about the weight gain - but a heavy meal the night before could explain it - that is why a Monday weigh in is pretty hard core - no hiding place for the weekend excess!
I have had a mixed 4 weeks - gained 1lb over the first two weeks, then lost it, then lost another - and WHOOPEE - I am in the 11s!!! 11st 13lbs. I am so pleased!
On the other hand I am really struggling with my weight loss motivation. I have lost 2 st since last June and have 13 lbs to lose to get to my target. My eating has become quite chaotic again, I am overeating (and drinking) at weekends and almost starving in the week. I have abandoned my fitness pal log ins and almost cant bear to read about 'healthy eating'. At least I am still exercising.
I know I must keep going - I would hate to go back to my start weight and am just hoping that inspiration and enthusiasm will suddenly strike me again! My target this week is to get back in control of my eating - do some pre planning - and learn to love myfitness pal again - it has served me well over the last few months.
Great to see you! Yes, we are very brave to post our weight on a Monday morning after the weekend excesses - I agree that does sound quite hard core…! No hiding place. I'm sure I'd be worse if I knew I was weighing in later in the week - so I think I need this discipline of being accountable on a Monday morning!
I am really excited for you, and many Congratulations for getting below the 12's and into the 11's - that is really great!!!! Well done you!
You should also celebrate the fact you've lost 2 stone since last June, and you only have 13 pounds left to lose. You have mentioned some real 'challenges' in relation to your feelings that you are lacking motivation to continue - I think it does feel like a 'long haul' sometimes, and sometimes we just want to 'kick free' of it, but it's good to hear that you're keen to stay on track and kick those remaining pounds away.
It's good that you're planning to get back to Myfitnesspal and pre-planning - maybe you need to think of some new meal plans to enable you to feel that meals are more interesting again. I noticed that OlsBean has posted a recipe for a pizza made from Cauliflower that looks particularly appetising. The NHS Banana Bran Fruit cake is tasty as a snack - I usually have one piece of that cake most days, and it's really filling - full of fibre and good things!
Hope you have a good week and that your motivation level will come back again as your week progresses and you're back on track.
It seems like a bit of a roller coaster even though I am 2\3rds of the way to my goal - and looking back to this time last year losing 2 st just seemed like a fantasy that I could never achieve.
I am ever grateful to finding this site, and particularly for this weigh in thread, and for the encouragement and support they have both provided - have a good week!
I have gained a week somewhere, I was convinced it was the 16th today (must be an age thing). Well, another 2lb off this week making a total of 19 lbs I can,t believe it, I,m so pleased, a lot of it is due to this site, I read it most days. Sorry to hear about your fluid retaining time of the month, thankfully that is in the past for me. Good luck for next week everyone especially Local, I really feel for you. 🌾
Glad you found the post ok. No wonder you had difficulty finding it as you were looking for the 16th.
Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week - you have consistently lost weight since you started, that's incredible! 19 pound in total - really well done! Very inspiring.
Thanks for your kind words, which are much appreciated.
sorry am going to have to be short but sweet as so much work to do - sorry you gained and yes I know you were going to lose 2lbs because I was going to lose it with you - maybe this will make you feel better - I actually managed to gain 2lbs! What the heck is all that about - note to self - must try harder!
No, it hasn't made me feel better for knowing that you've gained 2 pounds - I wanted us both to 'lose' 2 pounds, and for neither of us to gain any weight! But I guess we can't always have what we hope for, and sometimes we have to wait for the results we want. Hopefully we'll get there by next week instead. Here's hoping…!
Hope your day is going ok, and that you have a good week ahead.
Hi, I think that you have done well to only gain that tiny bit with your period. Next week you should have a loss if everything else remains the same. I'm going through menopause and I'm on my second period in 16 days, so you can imagine what thats doing to me!
Building up your core strength will be adding muscle I would think, and therefore weight.
Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week - that's really great! I know you feel it's slow progress, but I think it's really good - imagine a pound and a half of butter sitting on a plate - quite a considerable amount to have lost in one week.
You mentioned 'long term changes' - that's sensible advice and very relevant. Thanks for your encouraging words.
Congratulations to you for losing 0.33 of a pound - that is definitely a success, and every loss should be celebrated in my book! You're progressing in the right direction, and like you say, we're in it for the 'long game'. Lifetime changes that will maintain our health and well-being. Really good!
I hope you're right about next week being a good week for me - I am definitely sticking to my goals for food intake and exercise, and just hoping it pays off eventually with a change on the scales.
hi llowcal and everyone sorry you did not make your 2 pounds that is the only blessing being a little older do have to suffer periods any more well im over the moon had a 3pound loss this week mega happy first good loss since , i have up my water this week and been busy so that all helps good luck to everyone for next week
thanks for kind words i have been making sure i drink a 500ml bottle one through morning, then afternoon, and agine in evening, just so i can keep track and make sure i drink it enjoy your week and good luck penny
Hi all, sorry I'm posting late again! My Monday was all out of synch :|Lowcal periods are the pits - I'm sure that's what has stalled you this week - mine is late and I'm blaming it fully for my scales not going down this week ;)absolutely nothing to do with the mid-week curry blow out (which I'm also blaming on my period!)
You made me laugh when you mentioned your curry blow out - blaming it on your period - I'm sure that's the culprit, those pesky periods!!! They definitely scupper us when we're trying to do well.
Hopefully your scales (and mine) will go down for next week's weigh-in, and we'll be celebrating!!!
