I go to the gym six days a week where I run, spin, cross-train, swim, row and step. I've dropped from 19 stone to 16 since Dec 27th and want to get to 14 stone if I can.

Hi

The Way of the Roses is a C2C ride from morcombe to bridlington, a 170 mile ride, I am doing this over 3 days. I also did the classic C2C last year,. Riding tips it sounds like you have it covered. I am struggling at the moment trying to diet and get the energy levels right to cycle long distance . I have lost a stone which I am over the moon about but I want my energy back. I live in the north east and I love going to different places to cycle, just swapped my 26 specilized rockhopper to a 29er rockhopper.

I've got a road bike, a trek Domane 5.9 and a Cube Attention 26-er..I've just had Shimano XTR brakes fitted to the Cube and am waiting for a Shimano XT 10 speed chain set & shifters to be delivered. I've also relplaced the original fork with a Rock Shox Riba air fork. It's also got Schwalbe road tyres and I'm having a set of wheels made with Hope hubs on Stan's rims..I'll finish it off with a carbon seat post and then kill myself coz I'll be poor. That C2C ride sounds awesome..at least 50 miles a day is good going. I've looked at the route and it looks hard in places. It's a good incentive to lose the weight...keep looking at sound nutritional advice like Concerned's.

The 1st day is 50 miles and the most demanding, the next 2 days are 70 miles and the odd climb, really looking forward to it. Did you do c2c on your road bike or the cube. The second day was my worse day it rained all day, but managed to stay on the bike till I got to the climb at Stanhope and I got off there I used the road works as a excuse.

Those distances should be ok. I've not done a C2C yet..I tend to ride in West Yorks, Derbyshire Peak District, Cheshire and South Yorks as well as the Spanish Pyrenees a couple of times a year. But riding in the UK is tougher because of the hills, weather, congestion, aggression etc..no wonder Britain are world-beaters at cycling !

Thanks for the information, I will look at it and hopefully find a balance.

I had been wanting to do it for years, people would say they would do and then cry off. So last year I booked it through cycle active and went on my own, I met up with some great people and had a great time. This year I have gone through cycle active again and some of the bunch from last year are coming, so it will be great. I am ticking rides off one by one I want to tour at some point and cycle abroad.

That's the great thing about cycling, you meet some good people. Is Cycle Active the magazine ? If so, that's where I got the idea for cycling in Spain following an article about a company called Bike Breaks Girona..had a super time there.

No it is a cycling holiday company based in Penrith. There is one space left in our group if you fancy it lol. I get the cycle active magazine good read.

Well done!! Continue the good work,I am pretty sure you will be able reach 14 stones very soon. I hope you are taking good care of yourself by not just exercising but also eating healthy food as eating the right kind of diet is very essential for you.You are doing very strenuous workout all six days of the week with only a day of rest in between, so eating a healthy diet is very important for you to stay fit.

Thanks for the kind words, Alexa..I hope I can get to 14 stones. I'm eating well with plenty of fruit and veg, chicken & fish..that sort of stuff. I'm not on any specific diet and I don't eat red meat or processed food..just good things. If I need to snack it's usually fruit. I love going to the gym...2-3 hours a day, 6 days a week may seem excessive but I just like it. I'll probably slow it down when I reach a reasonable weight but I'm on a time limit...I have 5 months to lose 5 stones..I started 27th Dec and have until 31st May..dropping from 19 stones to 14....God help me !

The science behind weight-loss is deep and can be very confusing. You can flog yourself to death at the gym living on subsistence rations and not lose a gram. So it's important to learn the basics for sustained loss. I'll keep reading this forum for any good advice.
