Hey! I'm 19. 5'ft 9 and 15st 4 - disgusting I know. But now summers coming up I'm more motivated than ever to lose weight! I started my diet a week ago today started at a weight of 15st 10 so I'm pretty happy I've lost weight already. I'm eating either fruit/ beans on 2 slices of whole meal bread or Quaker oats for breakfast, fruit with a weight watchers yoghurt for lunch and for dinner a weight watchers meal with lots of veggies! However I'm constantly snacking on fruit throughout the day. Can I eat too much fruit? And does this diet seem reasonable? I'm actually finding it quite easy considering I used to drink easily a full bottle of coke a day on top of a lot of cheese/biscuits/chocolate and endless amount of crisps! Do you think this diet is going to benefit me in the long run? I'm also starting to do 10 minutes each day on the cross trainer. (Not a big excercise fan) any tips/advice would be great! Thank you!

Providing you take in fewer calories than you need yes it will work, fruit is full of sugar all be it natural

Try snacking on salad

And remember 1-2 lb a week is more sustainable for weight loss

Good Luck!

Hi Emmalouise123,

There are lots of pages of free advice, including a BMI calculator and a free 12 week plan on the NHS live well lose weight pages. That's a very good place to start.

As for too much fruit or indeed too much of anything, I'd suggest you have a read of the eatwell plate stuff and the other good food pages - nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pa...

I do concur with Prin on the 1 to 2 lbs a week average weight loss (you'll probably lose weight a bit faster at first) - maximum about 1 kg a week (2.2 lbs)

Fruit does contain sugar, though it is fructose, which gets processed by the body in a different way to other sugars.

There's also lots of good advice and commentary on these blogs mainly from people who are actually doing weight loss themselves

So, time to get on the weight loss bus.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Hi folks,

Just a word about fruit.

Whilst it does contain sugars, it also generally contains a lot of water, and also fibre. So, if you're going to take in x amount of calories or y grams of sugar, taking it in the form of fruit is a pretty good idea.

E.g. a 140g banana would give you about 68 kcal, whereas a 140g bar of chocolate would give you something in the region of about 730 kcal (perhaps more)!

This link is pretty good for more info about specific fruit, and the rest of the site is pretty good for general information about the benefits of fruit.

Hi Angel

Welcome to our family, you will find the sire very useful and there is always someone who can help you with advice and support anytime and we're always here if you need to vent or a shoulder to cry on.

Well done for the weight loss, be careful eating alot of fruit as the acid in the fruit may damage the enamel on your teeth, depending on the fruit your eating mainly citrus fruit.

Print was right, snacking on salad is better than fruit. Or if you have your own popcorn maker, plain popcorn is a good alternative, must be plain tho no sugar or salt!

Hope it helps, good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Take care and angel blessings
