I am having my wisdom tooth surgically removed on Tuesday as my dentist said it couldn’t wait until after baby is born due to the existing damage it is causing to the next tooth. I’m nearly 24 weeks pregnant and have been advised that I can only have local anaesthetic (not general or sedation), and to take a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen afterwards. I have also been advised that arnica tablets could be very helpful, though I haven’t taken them before.
I’ve read online that ibuprofen isn’t advised in pregnancy unless prescribed by a doctor, and I’ve read all sorts of different things about arnica, including that it can bring on early labour/miscarriage. Does anyone have any experience of taking arnica tablets during the second trimester (not just before labour to promote healing), or any advice on whether any of these options are safe? I am really worried about the amount of pain and bruising which I’m likely to have, and being unable to manage it or inadvertently causing harm to the baby.

I really think you need to speak to your midwife and possibly your GP before you take any medication other than paracetamol. They should be able to run through the risks and pros and cons of different medication.
Ibuprofen is no no in pregnancy i had a convo with my Dr the other day about my pain and relief he's OK with me taking my opiates until a week before delivery. I can't take anti inflammatories any way i mentioned this to him he said even if you could i would never prescribe you these in pregnancy they can harm the baby. X
I have had all my wisdom teeth removed. One with local anaesthetic and the others whilst sedated. The one I had with local was easy I was in and out and back at work within an hour. I hate painkillers so only took paracetamol which I only needed for a day. None of this was whilst I was pregnant but the recovery was fine and had minimal bruising and swelling.
You may want to ask how the extraction will be done or what is making it a complicated one to help give you an indication of what you can expect. From my own experience it’s the method of extraction that determines how the recovery will be.
