Crazy week for me and the hubby...

This week started off fairly well, only for it to start going downhill from Wednesday. I woke up not being able to bend or mice my right leg, so there I was, worried that I wouldn't be able to get to an appointment at 9am at a small hospital in the town next door. I called up 111, and they suggested that I go to an A&E at a couple of hospitals in Manchester I've never been to before! I asked if going to Salford Royal would be alright, because it's my neuro hospital, and they said it's fine. Then, at 8, I got a call from the small hospital, telling me that the doctor that was seeing me had called in sick, and they couldn't get another one in quick enough! That was fine, I don't need a taxi. My husband took an "emergency" day off from work to get me to A&E. His manager understands how he's a technically unpaid carer for me, and so it doesnt bother him. We went to go have breakfast somewhere (I paid) before we drove to Salford Royal. That was a long day! Husband had to wheel me in my wheelchair, and we waited quite a few hours before I finally got called in to be seen by a doctor. I was able to start bending my leg not long after being called in. When the doctor saw me, he did the whole reflex test on both of my legs, and was thinking of putting me on methylprednisolone* , until he looked at the notes my neuro had put up about him banning me from steroids unless with with my ocrevus. But, he had seen that I had an MRI recently, but the findings have not yet been put up. He also saw that my neuro appointment was at some date in October! That angered him, so he got my appointment moved to this Friday coming. I had organised a lift to/from Salford with his dad that morning! Thursday rolls around, I'm feeling like I'm at death's door with a cold. When I video called mum, she instantly knew I was sick because of how flushed my cheeks were. That's fine, my carer still came round on both Thursday and Friday. I told her to mask up on those days, not wanting to give her my cold. On Saturday, husband asked me if we should get a covid testing kit because I was coughing quite badly. I thought, "you know what? Yeah, lets rule that out." So, we go and get them, and we were both shocked when the tests came back positive! It was such a good idea I had when I told us to mask up to get them! Then, at about 5ish, I felt a leak coming from my urethra, knowing it shouldn't have happened with me being cath'd up. So, called up the out-of-hours district nursing team, and they suspected I have a UTI. So, they put me on the line to a health centre that does weekend appointments, but it still has a 24 hour call centre. I explained everything, and the person confirmed what the nurses had put on, and got me booked in for an appointment at 8 this morning. That would have been easy to wake up for if we'd had a proper sleep last night, but we were both able to finally switch off at half 11, go to bed, and then we both struggled to sleep πŸ˜” it was good that I'd put an alarm on my phone, because I don't think I would have been fine with the whole "wake up, check time, immediately fall back asleep" trick. But, half 6 comes around, I think I woke up 5 mins before, but it was nice to have an uninterrupted cuddle with my sleeping husband until an alarm goes off. When the alarm went off, he rolled over to check, confirmed it was time, before rolling back over to do his normal wake up stuff. I, on the other hand, went downstairs, made us both a morning cup of tea as a start to our day. Next, we're off to that health place to see a doctor. He was about to ask me to take a sample pot and pop to the bathroom, before remembering I have a cath bag on. Husband did the duty of opening the port and getting some urine into the pot. The Dr dipsticked, saw there was definitely results for an infection, and wrote me a prescription. We then went to a chemist that's open every day. I handed the prescription over, and when the chemist asked me to sign, I was like, "I can't! I have covid and I don't want to spread it to you!" The chemist signed it for me, and she also gave me a free bottle of alcohol gel! We came home, I took an antibiotic and went to bed for a nap. Husband has managed to stay awake, somehow, but I think it's because hes been playing on the xbox.

Did tell my mum of both updates, and she's made me laugh 😁 I also let my carer know, as well as the care company so they don't schedule my carer in for my visit. It's currently 5pm, he's just finished doing a weekly deep clean, and he's going to be cooking sausage, egg, and chips/potato waffles for tea πŸ‘Œ

My goodness, you have had quite the time! I hope you recover quickly 😷And that your neuro gets rescheduled to as soon as you are recovered!🧑

I know, right! Husband's being my Gopher (go for this, go for that), and he's currently cooking tea (dinner for people not in the NW of England).I tend to recover pretty quickly, but him? It may take him a while to actually start getting worse, but it lasts for more than a few days 😒

I'll be calling them up tomorrow when the line opens, just to see if they could push it back a couple of weeks. They probably will do, especially when I tell them I have covid πŸ˜…

Aww, well, I'll wish him a speedy recovery too! And yeah, saying the C-word (covid) would probably get them to do that!

Thank you, I'll let him know 😁 and I don't know πŸ€” yesterday when I had to go to emergency appointments, as long as I was masked up and hands washed, they didn't grumble. I know that the chemist signed my prescription on behalf of me when I told her I would hate to touch the pen and spread covid to other people. She completely understood.

You have certainly been through a lot, Cwright170994 . You and your β€˜carer’ should take the time to recover from COVID. πŸ™

We are doing ❀ his manager came by and dropped off his work laptop (the manager's) just so hubby could work from home. I think the manager told hubby to let him know if he has a day, or two, where he doesn't have the energy to work. He's a really good guy ❀

I'm doing better than him! 🀣 Had my lazy day yesterday, and he's just started. Will need a nap at some point today, though πŸ€” naturally woke up at 4ish, and I'm ready to go back to sleep now πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Wow, that was a lot. Sadly, my partner and I tested positive for Covid last week. After avoiding it for 4 years, I finally got it.πŸ˜•

Yep πŸ˜… but oh shit!!! 😱 to be fair, apparently there is a new variant going around now πŸ™„ it's supposedly changed it's shape to "hide" from white blood cells, so no matter if you've had all the vaccines, its still going to get you 😑

I'll be fine 😁 I'm already feeling better today! I think the fact I had to call me GPs up to have an appointment on Thursday switched from in-person to phone, so that's given me something to cross off my todo list 😁

I'm very much on my way there 😁 I like to laugh about the MS: it's so overpowered that, if it doesn't have anything foreign to go after, it goes after the myelin 🀣 I'm definitely doing better than the husband πŸ˜…

They are doing 😁 especially for me 😜 just the one day of feeling like shit! Reminds me of December back in 2023: he got covid, was worried he'd pass it onto me because I'd had an ocrevus infusion a week or so before, and he was jealous when I tested negative 🀣 cannot wait to do that again! I love him really, but... 🀣

Thank you 😁 and he should be πŸ€” he's drinking lemsip every 4 hours, and he's not coughing as bad now 😁 not been able to get into contact with the neuro department yet because my broke phone had all the numbers saved to the actual phone, rather than the sim! But, I'll still be going, all masked up, hands washed the nurses' way, and a bottle of alcohol gel. The doctor and pharmacists I saw over the weekend didn't mind when I went in for the tests, UTI, and prescription. It seemed like they were thankful that I caught it before we got the positive tests and went all masked up and not wanting to touch stuff that would be used by other people 😜And thanks for appreciating my sense of humour 😁 I go by a saying, "if you don't laugh, you'd cry!" Me and the husband were in a laughing fit last night because he can control when I laugh just by whispering "laugh" in my ear 🀣 he finds it so funny when I can laugh so hard I squeak! Which sends me laughing even more! Even the time when I fell in our shower, and he came out with, "I know you fell head over heels for me, but you don't have to go arse over tit!" 🀣🀣🀣 I was perfectly fine after that happened 😁

I didn't see your post until today. Wow, those darn UTIs can knock us for a loop! I'm so sorry you had to get up early and spend hours waiting to be seen, but it sounds like you got a great doctor. And your hubby was a superhero, like always! And I hope your Covid is mild. It sucks that you got hit with both! You were considerate to mask up and not use the pen!

Praying the antibiotics kick in fast so you feel better, and that you both recover from Covid quickly!

Cwright170994 profile image
Cwright170994 in reply to CatsandCars

That's ok 😊 and they can, especially when you know something's wrong, and when you got catheterised a couple of weeks before, they did a sample that was normal! Timeline: 30/06/24, had seizure, got catheterised.

12/07/24, MRI.

17/07/24, was meant to be with a doctor, hopefully getting my catheter removed, but he'd called in sick and they couldn't get a doctor in quick enough (appointment was at 09:00). Went to hospital because I woke up not able to move or bend my right leg.

19/07/24, husband was concerned about my cough, so we went and got covid tests. Took them and found out we were both positive.

22/07/24, called up my GPs to ask about an appointment I'd booked a month before because of my cough, thinking I had pneumonia again. I'd booked it as a face to face but had to ask for it to be switched to phone call because of the test. At the end of the day, I did something that we'd been meaning to do for a while: get new sim contracts because our current ones' company had been sold to O2 and the signal is shit in my area. So, we went on the Vodaphone webpage and got ourselves new contracts with them. I've also got a new phone coming to take over from the slow s8 (the *old* phone). It's an s23, so 2 models after the dead phone πŸ˜… he's just got a new sim πŸ€”

But, I'm getting better faster than him, but it might be because he's having to work from home from a laptop that his manager let him borrow, and I'm just keeping it easy and doing my everyday stuff πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
