Anyone on Vumerity (Tecfidera generic)? I saw some older threads but nothing recent. Switching from Copaxone 40MG soon, which has been amazing for me, but skin needs a break. Any tips or things to be aware of when taking this?

Really scared to make a switch. Side effects seem horrible for all the DMT’s. Trying to pick the one with the least potential issues. I know everyone is different too.

Hi, SGL33! Sorry that I don't have personal experience with it, but here are a few reviews I found online:

drugs.com/comments/diroxime...

I hear you on the side effect profiles. Terrifying stuff, and the more effective the med, generally the worse the potential side effects are. Fortunately, the really bad ones are usually rare, and you just have to hope that you're not one of the unlucky ones. In exchange you get better odds of a healthier brain and less disability.

Hopefully someone with chime in with more personal experience soon. I wish you the best.

I'm not on this one, but was switched from name brand Tecfidera to Dimethyl Fumarate. This med sometimes has side effects for some people...flushing and stomach upets are usally the big ones that I am aware of, esp when first staring the drug. Eating something first before taking the prescription helps. My Neuro recommended low dose aspirin when I first started to help with flushing. I no longer take the aspiring. Vumerity, I don't know much about. I found this site that compares them side by side: drugs.com/compare/tecfidera...

Good luck. Keep us updated when you can,

Hi SGL33. I have been on Tecfidera and Vumerity. Vumerity is not a generic for Tecfidera. They are similar drugs and work in much same way, but they each have a different chemical structure. Tecfidera is dimethyl fumarate and Vumerity is diroximel fumarate. The side effects are similar, but I did better on Tecfidera. Of course, we all react differently to these drugs, so the only way to know if you'll do well on a certain DMT is to try it. As you said, the side effects are scary on all the DMT's, but hopefully you will do well on the Vumerity. The most common side effects with Vumerity are stomach upset and flushing. Make sure to eat something before you take the pills, and that should help. Good luck and keep us posted on how you do.

Hello SGL33,

I started on Tecfidera in 2020 and a yr later switch to Dimethyl Fumarate (Generic) both of them worked well with beginning with stomach issues. In 2022 due to Insurance I started on Vumerity. I notice the side effects was minor stomach issues for a short period of time that resolved. Another was being really sleepy early and waking up a lot throughout the night after taking meds. Those symptoms improved after awhile.

Many prayers on starting the med🙏🏾

my first dmt was tecfidera many years agi (10 or 11 years ago?). My wbc numbers dropped and kept dropping so i got really scared and switched. Little did I know that that was a common and/or minor effect of all ms dmts. I loved how i felt on tecfidera but like i said that was my first one and I bet anything wouldve felt better than untreated MS. Im on ocrevus now after switching amongst 4 or 5 others. I never tried vumerity
