Anyone else have this?

My legs have been feeling heavy, and very tired. I overdid it on Teusday, and so was taking it extra easy on Wednesday. However, last night my legs suddenly felt extremely tired and like they weighed a ton and were difficult to move. I had to get help getting back up the stairs. This morning they are not quite as bad, but are worse than usual. Is this something I should be worried about? Have any of you experienced this before? Should I contact my neurologist? Thank you for any input!

If a new symptom lasts for longer than 24 hours, definitely call your neuro about it. That said, this was an early and still-common symptom of mine. The legs feel better after a period of rest, but the more I push myself the longer it takes for that "rest" to catch up.

Thank you. I had to push myself more yesterday, it was one of my Teen's birthday, so we went to a museum. Hubby and I had discussed it, and even without this happening, there was no way I could make it through the whole museum, so we got me a wheelchair. First time in one of those. I'm thankful we did, because the displays were on 3 floors and we were there for hours wandering around.

I agree with Nora’s mom.. I have been having an extra heavy week this week, full of activity as well as stress and Tuesday as I was leaving aqua Zumba it was as if I was trying to “walk through molasses “ every step I was taking was an effort ( little did I know at the time that I was going to have to keep rolling for another 12 hours with all the crazy that’s going on in the house) today is better.. I got to stay home all day yesterday and just move at my own pace. It was so much easier on my body today. I have to go out to my water class but it is literally just for one class and I’m coming straight home. Good luck Ms. Flea.. let us know how you’re doing… Hopefully just some rest will help but I agree since you were very new in the game you might want to reach out to your neurologist if it goes on for more than 24 hours

Thanks! 🙂I thought I was a little better when I woke up, but after moving around for a bit, they are getting heavier feeling again. I did have strep, mostly over it now. I did message neuro, and they think it may be related to the strep, having an infection with MS, but want me to keep an eye on it. My legs were feeling heavy, but not this bad, before the strep, so I'm wondering if it has just exacerbated the symptom. Honestly, I did not think of the connection between me having had strep and the symptom worsening, had it pointed out to me. I'm very thankful, because I was getting worried!

I think it is amazing that you do aqua Zumba! Is it difficult? Or does being in the water help?

Ohhh I am so glad you reached out to your neurologist.. it is crazy how getting strep, infections, or really anything else… For me, especially viral illnesses when my kids were younger. Really knocked me for a loop. Yes, when I am in the water, I feel enabled verses on land, when I am disabled. When I do my exercising in the water, I can do so much more than when I am on land. I didn’t start out doing aqua Zumba but built up to that.. I started doing basically an aqua aerobics class that was designed for all levels. I did those classes probably six months before I tried an aqua Zumba class… That is where my love is! But on the other hand I get my Zen on at the aqua yoga class I take weekly as well.. we usually do about 35 minutes of aerobics and strength then we morph into a good 15 minutes of yoga then we work with resistance bands for 5 to 10 minutes. And all of this is done in the water.. I often have to take my time getting dressed afterwards, and usually have to go sit in my car and eat a cheese stick and just chill for a bit before I drive. 😆

I'm so glad to hear that about the water, I've been thinking about, when I'm feeling a bit better, trying to see if there is a place close to me that does water physical therapy, I've heard that it is much easier on the body.

Aqua yoga sounds SO nice! It is so awesome that you have those classes to go to!

Yes! And it’s just at my local gym.. it’s WAY cheaper than my co pays for PT when the classes that I take are approved by neurology and my physical therapist that I have seen for approximately eight months in the last two years. The water classes that I take help with my strengthening, endurance, balance, and give me the best stretch which neurology says, is possibly even more important than cardio!

I was going to ask if you might be getting sick because that is when I get heavy legs.

I had not made the connection till it was pointed out to me. Even though I have read that infections/sickness can cause symptoms to get worse, it didn't even cross my mind. My legs have been slightly heavy before getting sick, but it was not to this degree, and it really worried me. I'm glad to know it is just because I'm sick. Question: Does it take longer for you to get over being sick now, with having MS, then it did before?

Definitely takes longer from the fatigue standpoint. Other symptoms tend to have similar course as pre MS, pre Ocrevus.

I have been debating on whether to get in touch with my Neuro or not. My legs are taking too tiny of steps and I keep feeling like I'm falling forward. Feels like my feet are glued to the floor

You probably should if it's been 24 hours. It's your job to tell them, and their job to figure out if there's anything that needs to be done! Good luck.

I agree with CatsandCars, probably want to message your neuro and let them know. Sending hugs your way! I hope the neuro can help you! 🧡

Yes I had that problem in 2015. Yes you need to see the neurologist as soon as possible! Take care of yourself!🥰

Yes! Periodically, I get what I call "legs in concrete". I cannot lift my feet off the floor and have to drag myself around with legs that feel like they weigh eight hundred pounds. For me, it has been one of my "regular" symptoms, so I have learned to just wait it out. However, if this is something new for you, give it 24-48 hours and if it doesn't start to go away, its time to call your Neuro. Since you did say you overdid it, it might just be your body telling you to rest up. Keep us posted! 🤗

That is a very good name for it! I am finding I get 'stuck' where I'm sitting, because my legs/body just don't want to work to get up because everything is too heavy, especially my legs. Didn't get to rest yesterday, but planning on it today!

I've experienced this before! Had my husband to help me 'booty-scooty' down the stairs! That is, he'd sit on a couple of steps before me, and he waited until I scooted myself down a step before he'd do the same 😬 I now have a stannah stairlift, and I love using it to get up and down when my legs don't want to work! Bit slow, mind, but it works 💪 also useful for when hubby's feeling a bit lazy bringing the washing basket downstairs to put stuff in the washing machine 😅 and very useful if paramedics need to get me downstairs after I've had a status epilepticus event in bed 😬

The 'booty-scooty' is a great idea, I've been trying to go up the stairs normal, and it is very... challenging. Hubby has to help me, and I'm afraid my heavy legs will miss a stair because I can't lift it up enough. Awesome that you have a stairlift! I bet that comes in very handy! I'm trying to mostly stay on the floor that my bedroom is on and have my Teens or hubby bring me the things I need. Doesn't always work, because they may not be here, or be busy, but I'm finding my patience, lol.

Cwright170994 profile image
Cwright170994 in reply toMSFlea

It certainly is! I remember having to crawl up my stairs before I was able to get my stairlift put in. I remember having to get a bannister on the other side to the original just to help me 'walk' up because my arms were stronger than my legs at that time 😢🫣
