When the so-called tropical depression came up the Mid Atlantic coast, here in Central Virginia we had several days of winds (with some very exuberant gale force bursts) that brought down one large pine and an abundance of smaller limbs, branches, twigs and leaf clusters. When things began to dry out, I began gathering the debris for disposal. Last week, I again filled the fire ring with limbs I had hand sawed through and two plastic 50 gal tubs of smaller wood. As my lower back and left hip grew a bit achy, I decided to call it a day. Though there is still another area to clear up, I made a mental note to wait until this week.

All was well until supper time when all of a sudden YIKES I came to the realization that I had seriously overdone the bending and gathering. The next few days saw me creeping about to do my animal feeding and self care, always my cane and grabber tools within reach.

I had just completed 16 weeks of physical therapy for my walking struggles, where I learned from the therapist that my hip flexors need strengthening. That's how I know the name of what has caused these YIKES moments. I seem to have a strained left hip flexor and the thigh muscle it's attached to (in PT a less intense yike taught me the label).

Dr. Google says this will improve over the next two or three weeks. At this point, though I'm cautious as I do my daily tasks, the YIKES moments are rare, occuring only late in the day when I've obviously had to walk as I work.

Long ago, I promised Falalala a photo of my all terrain rollator. For the last week, it has allowed me to thin my lettuce, pick a ripening tomato or two, and more importantly feed and water the 3 old goats and several chickens. The feed and hay flake go into a flexible trug on the seat. the added support eases my hip and outside chores are painless. So here's a photo of that helpful rollator that is easy to use on my ramps, and easily navigates lumpy mole tunneled earth and pits where the dog has dug out a hapless rodent. It's large but folds for storage...and it's made me wish for a smaller inside model.

Thanks for posting this.

You got a lot done! I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you. I hate getting old and decrepit! The rollator comes with a carryall that I haven't figured out how to attach but I took a half gallon bottle in a cloth bag with me this morning that I slung over one of the handles. This morning, I discovered a Velcro loop on the left side where I attached my grabber. Very convenient! Just as I arrived at the feed shed, a tiny tail was slithering under the door. I took the grabber, grabbed the world's tiniest blacksnake and flung it out. I'm sure it was trying to get out of the cold (it's been in the 40s at night)...if I were faster, I could have taken him into the chicken pen. Though they avoid large blacksnakes, they would have made short work of this one.

You seem to get a boatload of work done ...and I'm envious of that. :)

Is the "grabber" one of those sticks with a trigger and a claw?

yup! I have two: one short, the other long. My front load washer sits at floor level. I use the long one to reach into the drum for that last small sock or towel.

I need to get one!

You remember how the witch in Hansel and Gretel meets her end? She bends down to look into the oven, and she's toast. One good shove, and there I would be, going through the spin cycle. My grabber saves me from that fate!

That's why I stay out of the kitchen.😂

I'm glad you mentioned the grabber in your post. I just ordered these from Amazon:

2-Pack Grabber Tool, 32" Long Reacher Grabber Pickup Tool, Trash Picker Grabber for Elderly Grab It Reaching Tool, Garbage Picker Upper Grabber, Litter Pick Up Grab Tool, Claw Grabber Stick (Blue)

I can't wait to abuse them!😂😂

Thank you. We all soldier through somehow. And I'll be careful not to overdo until the next time! I hope you get a lot of trick or treaters so you don't have to eat all the leftover candy yourself! It's great fun to see the little ones out trick or treating for the first time.

Well, I must say that you are certainly not just sitting around! I have been concerned about you, but I rather suspect that you don’t like being fussed over, so I have not inquired about what you have been doing. I will be sending you extremely warm thoughts and hope that you heal quickly.

Thank you! I do a pretty good job of fussing over myself, so I don't usually need help with that. I envied you your marathon jam and preserve making sessions this summer! I wanted to be there alongside you and then I admired what you produced, solo.

Our weather was so different from the usual that I had no peppers or tomatoes to dry, (in fact, only now do I have a few late tomatoes ripening -- in tomato season, it was too hot for the fruit to set). I won't be canning anything except apple butter (next week, I hope) and marmalade when the Seville oranges come into season in December or January.

So glad to hear you aren't letting MS get in the way of living! Keep on keepin' on!❤

You watered me? If I'm one of the old goats, who's the other two? 🙂

Far as I can tell, you are not an old goat! My goats love gingersnap cookies, but the similarity may end there. You are a talented artistic member of our forum family who conducts marathon baking sessions every holiday season. The three old goats who came to live out their declining years are definitely NOT productive in any sense but one that benefits my gardens!
