Rollator

Hi MS family,

Anyone have suggestions for "not my grandma's" rollator? And also lightweight. I have progressed over the past 12 years since my diagnosis from independent walking, to cane and now needing a walker. I can't put it off any longer. I just refuse to use the lightweight aluminum one with the tennis balls on the front ( even though it's easy to get in & out of the car), and the traditional rollator with the seat is just too heavy. I know falling isn't "cool" but there's got to be a "cool" lightweight rollator out there somewhere (I hope). Thanks for your help!

I received a free rollator from msaa. It is lighter weight then the one I got through insurance. Doesn't seem like a few lbs would make a difference but it does.

I was to suggest MSAA, got my cooling vest from MAAA & love it. You may donate the old one to a senior center.

I use the three wheel rollator (Mini Walker). I can lift it with only one hand.

Thanks for your reply. I tried a 3 wheeled walker and it seemed to make me more unbalanced! 🤷‍♂️ I donated mine to a local nursing home.

oh no! not the tennis balls!😀 you could check with your dr's office. i will say i've seen some grannies with nice rollators. i got my first one from amazon. i think it was 50 bucks or thereabouts and it was a charcoal grey with black accents. it got too heavy though for me to lift in and out of cars. have you seen those sleek ones in shiny blue and red? i've been using the chair more b/c heat makes everything 10 times worse, but considered getting one this winter. it would be cheaper to go through your doc if possible.

stay strong.

I'm right there with you with the heat. I looked up the red and blue "shiny" ones (gotta love google) and they're nice looking...Thank you.

I used for years and still use sometimes the Drive Nitro rollator. It's pretty light. Probably not quite as light as one of those aluminum ones but still very light.Comes in different height options and is height adjustable. So many people out there with incorrectly sized walkers. An incorrectly sized walker can screw up ones walking as much as the MS. The medical equipment companies are just terrible with that. Do your own research on correctly sizing first. Medicare and most insurance will pay for a new one every five years with a doctor Rx.

I did not know that Medicare would cover a walker. Thank you for that info.

A Nova rollator is lightweight.

I also use the Drive Nitro Rollator. I like it because it collapses “inward” . You pull up the seat to make it narrow. Easy to get into car by myself. Also easy to get through tight spaces while still giving you support, like between tables at a restaurant.

Thank you so much!

I have one that is made by Probasics PMI. It is very light weight and you can fold it up with one hand. I can put it in the car very easily. Mine is royal blue. It is also height adjustable from 31" to 27". It weighs about 14lbs.

I found this blog the other day. The author definitely found some that have less of a 'grandma' feel (but they do seem rather pricey).

I love it. They are really cool looking just, unfortunately, out of my price range.☹️
