Saw eye dr today for yearly visit

And when I was reading the lines when she askes which is better, which is worse, I couldn't make out the bottom line because it was so blurry. Turns out, I have early cattaracts that are right in my line of vision. I will eventually need cataract removal surgery. I am in my mid 40s. The eye dr said she has seen some patients with this.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with cataracts at an early age? I know they are not brought on by MS and usually don't happen until later in life. My grandpa and my great grandma had them but not until a lot latter in life.

have you been on many rounds of steroids? Prednisone and other steroids can influence the development of cataracts.

I’m concerned about this issue because I’ve been on prednisone now for 14 months for another autoimmune condition. I have my yearly eye appointment in a few weeks and we’ll see.

Yes, I had cataract surgery in both eyes in my 40s. The surgery went very well. I was amazed at how much clearer everything was. After the surgery I was amazed at how white my living room walls actually were. Lol. I painted them, gave it some color. Then in my fifties hit with optic neuritis, then diagnosed with MS. Also have glaucoma and vitreous detachment. So my eyes are back to being blurry. Also very dry eyes from sjogren's.

I had cataracts at fifty-five. The specialist said that they were steroid inducduced. Had mine removed and she said it would be rare to get them again.

When I had them I had not been on steroids before. This is prior to my diagnosis with MS. I believe you would never get them again because you don't have your lens anymore because they replace them with man-made. The only thing I had to do was to get each lens cleared because sometimes after the cataract procedure they fog up.

I have cataracts as well. I think I was diagnosed in my late 40's-can't remember.

The doc says I'm not ready to have them out yet and they have not really affected my ability to do artwork.Neither has glaucoma or retinopathy...yet.

If anything, I'll put my eye out with a Red Ryder bb gun.😜

I had a cataract removed last year at age 63. Not super young but I'd had them off to one side for 20 years or more. Only one had clouded my vision so I had that one removed.
