Slow cooker - Never looked back

I said ages ago I'd let youall know how I got on with my new slow cooker. The first few things I made came out very watery but I've got that sorted out and now it's producing scrummy casseroles for me. My basic recipe is

Whatever meat I'm having this time, (if frozen, defrosted overnight)

Can of chopped tomato

Onion - chopped

Carrots/green pepper/green beans/mushrooms/whatever - chopped

Flour + gravy granules + mixed herbs + pepper

Potatoes - peeling them's too much trouble, just scrubbed and chopped small (they tend to be a bit underdone if cut too big) - or leave them out and have with a microwaved potato, or pasta.

a bit of water to rinse out the tomato can and cover the meat. Use boiling if possible it gets the potatoes started.

Put it all in the pot, stir a bit, cook on High for 4 hours

Enjoy! And freeze the rest, usually I get 3 or 4 meals per run.

I'm not being very adventurous yet, I admit, but it's soooo much nicer (and cheaper) than ready-meals. The physiotherapist says peeling vegetables is good hand exercise. And the smell of food that starts wafting in from the kitchen after 3 hours has restored my appetite. My mouth is watering just thinking about it...🥕🍗🧅🥔🥫🍅🥘🍽️🥛 Quick, Kit, press post or you'll be salivating all morning!!

That's great! They do smell wonderful don't they? The hand exercise is an added bonus!

I've had an instapot pressure cooker/slow cooker for almost 10 years and have just finally started using it to cook meat, yum, so tender. 😋

I agree! It smells great and is tastier than plastic food!

I love my Instant Pot! I cook all veggies in it from the fresh Farmer's Market, and like you, freeze so many servings my husband has plenty to eat when I don't get out of bed. It is sooo convenient to "boil" eggs in the setting of Air Fryer because I don't have to worry about boiling them dry as the many times in the past! I use 275 degrees for 14 minutes for perfectly boiled eggs, then immerse in ice water for perfectly peeled eggs later. If my husband doesn't eat them all before I am able, I make egg salad.

I take a rump roast, 4 cups of beef broth, a package of onion soup, and a package of au jus soup. Dump it all in the crock pot for about 8 hours. It pulls apart easily to put on a bun. I usually put a slice of provolone or Swiss cheese in the sandwich too.

it’s soup season, I am a soup nut, whatever is hanging in the fridge is fair game. Rachel Rae taught me how to make soup that tastes as if you cooked it all day. I apply her ideas and go wild. Take tonight, small eggplant, zucchini, onion, garlic, can of chopped tomatoes (Rachel’s key ingredient) some farro and a can of kidney beans. Amazing and Mediterranean- vegan
