Hallucinating

Greetings to All, I am wondering if others with MS have issues with hallucinations. Typically, it happens when I am not sleeping though with dwindling eye sight it is happening more often. Although I know I am hallucinating, it can be extremely scary.

I have not heard of this gracy and wonder if it is a side effect from one of the meds that your are on.

The package insert of one of my meds says that it can cause vivid dreams. When I first started it, as I was falling asleep, familiar images would play like a slide show in my head. They were never scary, but quite amusing.

This is an excellent suggestion. When I tried melatonin as a sleep aid, every time I took it I would have unusually vivid dreams and sometimes brief nightmares. I won't take it for that reason. If I recall accurately, Gabapentin may list this as a side effect (which is why, when it was prescribed for me, I wouldn't take it.) Hallucinations may occur with Parkinson's disease, so gracy225 should talk with her doctors to find the cause of these disorienting episodes.

Sorry to hear melatonin doesn't work for you. Not only is it completely harmless, it is very helpful for the immune system, for example against COVID.

I have Melatonin will work for a period of time then becomes ineffective. Once taken after a week or so, it does tend to work again. Thanks for responding!

I have been taking it for years. I guess as with many things, it depends on the person.

Thank you for replying. I will inquire about my meds. You are so right regarding Parkinson's. My mom had it and would see an entire family. Though she knew that was impossible, it was so very upsetting.

Iona60 the same thing happened to me with a new medicine. that slide show description is perfect. unfortunately for me, the longer i stayed on it, the worse it got and then became accompanied by a crushing depression. i hope you find answers soon.

also, my dad had parkinson's and he experienced hallucinations, but to him it wasn't always clear if what he was seeing was real or not. i would definitely check with your doctor.

actually melatonin has interactions with some prescription drugs. Everyone should check ALL drugs, whether OTC or prescribed on Drugs.com for interactions with their other drugs as well as with food etc.. I know some of the anti-depressants, for example, you cannot eat anything with grapefruit in it and many anti biotics render birth control pills very ineffective. Its always best to check on something before taking it even if its "just" an OTC med or supplement

I do not. I also have never heard of this before as a MS issue.

This can be scary for sure, gracy225 call your pharmacist and your Dr about this... Ask about the side effects of everything your taking. You can be overly sensitive to the meds. 🤗💕🌠

I have a declining cognitive function thing going on.. My neuro started me on Aricept, 10mg a day.. then after some time bumped me to 20 mg a day, divided in 2 doses.. when that happened I started having these bizarre nightmares, that were so realistic that i would wake up acting them out.. i say bizarre, they were terrifying. Like cannabalistic clams that had a mother clam controlling them that were coming up on the beach trying to eat my feet and i could see her glowing in the dark down the waterway as she rose out of the water and opened her shell, bizarre and terrifying.. I woke up trying to kick these things off of my feet! Sometimes i would be just kind of on the edge and swear I was having visions of another place.. like i was being transported somewhere.. So it very well could be a medication.. What we did was cut my bedtime dose in half and these incidents pretty much stopped

Yes. I believe it’s more often with sleep disruption and probably complicated by my eye issues. 6 years now. Let’s see, the ground is liquid, always a fun ride 🙄 Uthoffs makes my peripheral vision silver liquid, but that one is kind of pretty. I had a black cat once, so I think I see her when the black shadows that don’t actually exist move (and forget she’s long dead and wonder if I fed her today 🤦‍♀️). I don’t remember the rest.

I have been meaning to write! Sometimes I see a ball or something, in my side vision. I feel like I need to duck to avoid it hitting me, but it is not really there! I have had this going on for about two years, only occasionally. It can be very annoying. But when I am rested it is better. I hope you get resolution. 🤗 Kelly

Hi Kelly, Me too! Only it's like a bug or something in my side vision. I used to think it was something stuck on my eye lash but it keeps happening. Oh the joys.....
