what would you do with a do over?

This may be irrelevant (I can see you Royce shaking your head at me) but if i could do my life over again I would do it very differently. Here's a list of things i would do: I would exercise EVERY day. No matter what. I would laugh more, read, wear more purple (as per Emma Bombeck) Take excellent care of my health. Feed my spirit every day like my life depended on it because it does. I would be fully alive and available.

What I would not do again: I would not be married to my husband. I would not make decisions out of fear. I would not settle for less than I deserve. I would not be silent about my needs.

Here's a list of things i would do:

1 I would exercise as well. Before MS I did workout at one point I did crossfit, worked out with personal trainer

2 I would keep laughing

3 i read a lot as you can tell from my post

4 my go to color is black and blue two reasons you can get away with wearing it several times and no one would know. Then its the color my profession wore a lot.

I would not purchase or wear more purple. Reason being my mother Everything she owns is purple and if its not she will dye it purple. when she gives you a gift its purple. Her car and room are both purple when I say everything I mean everything. My mother wears it 365/366 days a year.

My mother's friend made a bet with my mother that she could not wear purple for a whole month, she made it but once that month was over she dyed everything purple

5 I would have listened to my dr when he told me I should have taken MS meds, I believe I wouldn't have been in the shape I'm in now. I now know how important taking care of my health is.

6 I would not have destroyed the one relationship I had where the person truly cared for me, I felt like I was going to be a burden when I started get ting sick due to MS. Before I started getting sick he was the only person outside my family who knew I had MS. He understood neurological diseases because his mother had dementia .

I was so out control from fear that I attacked him for no reason . I tried to apologize but he refused to accept it and blocked me

Another thing I would redo I would get my masters degree. I would’ve picked another subject.

I was going for English, I had only taken 1 class but the 1st assignment wanted me to write a paper on amovie genre. At that point I thought to myself there is no way I could write a 15 page paper on a movie, but this morning I realized I could’ve done it. I watch a lot of turner classic movies (tcm) channel and I normally don’t watch them discussing the movie b4 it starts but today I did, and if I had cable back in the 90’s I would have known what to do.

At this point I think I have enough credentials to put on a resume if I needed a job. Rest assured I have no plans to work . MS is a job in and of itself

I'm sure you could have. Yes, MS is a job in itself. Today was shower day! For me, work makes me feel whole. Not disabled.

Shower day is a job in and of itself. It takes me 2hrs. At one point I took them once a week, now that I have a shower stool I take them 2x's a week cuz I use it to get out the shower, before I had to wait for someone to be able to help me get out if I needed it. With the stool I'm able to put my feet over the tub and pull myself up

Sandydemop profile image
Sandydemop in reply torjoneslaw

the stool is in the shower? how do you get your legs over? i have a shower chair but still tricky getting in and out from standing.

rjoneslaw profile image
rjoneslaw in reply toSandydemop

its in the tub I move the stool so I can sit on it and I turn my body so I out my legs over the tub. Then I put my legs over the tub and I pull myself up.

to get into the tub I have a step that I use. I lift my weak leg in 1st then I step in with the good leg

I think you're saying sit on the edge of the tub to get in. I try standing and it's a 50/50. I'll try sitting next time. thanks

rjoneslaw in reply toSandydemop

No I'm not sitting on the edge of the tub I'm sitting on the stool and I put my legs over the side of the tub then pull myself up

I see where I went wrong. trying to get in by standing up- the old way

I have quite a few things I would do differently. I will keep them private. The things I would never change are raising 8 fabulous, kind, successful kids, reading everyday, learning a new word everyday, continuing to walk beating the doctor’s predictions! Loving my parents and caring for them to the end, trying to be honest in all my doings, choosing friends carefully, so many more for which I am grateful! GREAT POST!

Of course, there are things I would change, starting with getting the flu shot when it was offered back in 2007. I probably would have worked longer or still be working. Of course, there is more but I can't think of them off the top of my head...darn MS brain.

I wish I had traveled more!! It was school & working then a house then kids then ms.

I would have told my husband the night I met him that we needed to have kids ASAP because I wanted a big family. 🤣 I’m sure he wouldn’t have run away 🤣

There are quite a few things I would change. The biggest would be to talk to my parents and grandparents about their lives. My mom was 38 when I was born and I only had a grandmother on my mom’s side and a grandfather on my dad's side. The others died before I was born. What rich history they carried with them and I can't get it now. Even though I was pretty young I could have carried a tape recorder for when we went on vacation and visited them.

I wish I had been more active in high school and made friends. I did Nothing but go to school and go back home and read books. I've been to all my high school reunions and know who some people are but I was never friends with them. So now I have no friends and it's pretty lonely. Yes I am married but I really don’t know anyone else.

My husband says he wishes we had known each other as kids as we'd have even more time to goof off.

I'd have to say that would be it for me as well

NO, I would not do anything over. I am what I am today because of the decisions that I made in my life. If I did not do things differently I would not be me. I think I would not have slept with some woman, I can think of at least three I wish I slept with more. Of course, there are stocks that I would have looked at deeper.

My life's adventures made me me. Perhaps next lifetime I get to do things differently, but in this lifetime I believe I am happy and mostly content.

NO, I stand my ground I do not think I would change anything majorly. I am content
