Good Morning my beloved ms family. If “YOU” are new that is “YOU. If “YOU” have been around for a while “YOU” know how I feel about “YOU” and this family in particular. Yes, “YOU” are cared about by a complete stranger. Let us all be clear. I am not any type of medical professional. There is no m.d.or phd. after my name. What there is a combined 40+ years of living with Relapsing-Remitting ms (RRms) obviously male, mine) and female (hers). So I do have a little knowledge on the subject.

At first, I read all the info the society and the association sent. It scared me, as I sure it scares “YOU. Maybe they have toned down the overweight old ladies in wheelchairs images on their booklets. Not something that a fit healthy(not really) 28 year old man is comfortable looking at. RELAX, that does NOT have to be “YOU” today in 2021. Today there is something called Disease-Modifying Therapies (DMT). Most of them involve self injection, there are devices to help with that), Some tablets and some infusions. “YOU” my dear are interested in the strongest that “YOU” can legally lay your hands on. Ocruvus I believe, a twice a year infusion. My opinion, BUT, there may be trial and error all our bodies are d react differently. I do not take it as a twenty+ year veteran it is easier for me to stay on my Tecfidera. Besides I like my 2 times daily tablet and really do not like being stuck with needles. I have the scaring from years on Betaseron to remind me of that. So that is your first step. Wipe away the tears, remind your Neurologist that it is “YOU” that have the disease and “YOU” want the strongest medicine, Ocruvus regardless of side effects which there will be..

I work this on the fewer relapses annually. Yes’ “YOU” will still have relapses but fewer, and that is a good thing and obviously the aim. To get worse slower. We are going to get worse, this is a progressive disease after all, but the longer it takes to get worse the BETTER.

Now that “YOU” have chosen your DMT the fun things start. Start exercising. Start having more sex. Yes, I know a touchy subject but if “YOU” do not use it “YOU” will lose it. I know this from experience, “YOU” should see my handwriting, not to mention my typing. My old typing instructor would be livid with me if he saw me typing today. All ten fingers just do not work like they used to.

That should have taken a few of your first fears away. DMT exercise and diet. Diet, there is NO ms diet, at least none that will take it away, NOTHING WILL Here, is an idea for “YOU”. Eat healthy, cut back on processed foods, the booze and smoking, unless “YOU” are on fire. In that case I am very sorry, I know how terrible burns can be. I have tried at times, Swank ms diet, vegetarian, high protein and some others that I do not remember. None of them cured me but I am still living and am not overweight and all things considered I do not think I am a candidate for a heart attack any time soon. Having said that for self-injection, inject into the fatty part of your body. Butt, posterior, arse work well. Have somebody else do it if “YOU” can and rotate, rotate, rotate.

All in all, there is a lot to learn. “YOU” will make mistakes, we all do, we are not perfect. Find a way to make yourself mentally stronger. Imagine doing this for yourself, then DO it. Live your long life with this condition There is no reason why “YOU” can not do it, others have, and “YOU” can as well.

I agree with all that! Sadly i am overweight from the steroids and lack of exercise so i have that regret. And yes. So many things if u dont use it u lose it.

Great advice!

I cannot emphasize it enough, Royce. We all need to be our own best advocates ~ take your DMT, follow the advice of your medical team, diet, EXERCISE, and believe in yourself! Your post is well done! Keep Smiling :-D
