The recent post by mrsmike9 gave me the courage to post this....
I finally paid off a bunch of credit cards. It took me about 30 years. In a fit of revenge, I cut them into tiny shreds. Then I thought, “There’s a craft project in here somewhere...!”
Several months (and many curse words) later, this piece appeared. She is my former foster daughter, now adopted by a loving family. I love her soooo much, and I still get to see her occasionally. Which is one of the biggest joys of my life!
If you stand far away, and squint your eyes until they’re nearly closed, it is quite a good likeness of her rakish smile.
I encourage everyone to start an art project, no matter how embarrassing it may seem at the time. At least it’s one of the struggles we have, where there’s something to show for it at the end!

Wow! That’s amazing! And to think you’d be embarrassed! I so appreciate everyone’s willingness to post their projects, for they inspire us all to keep trying.
That’s the best use of credit cards I’ve ever seen!
wow this is great and to be able to put her smile in it also...yes you have to squint to see her...wow great job and it will remind you what you went threw to be able to make this ...this is great..
I love how you celebrated paying everything off (good for you!). Most people would just trash those cards and I love how you turned them into art! You did this beautifully!! What a treasure. You can always see it and be reminded of several things. Of course your beautiful foster daughter, the Triumph of paying everything off and a reminder to not dig yourself into that hole again! I Love the piece and love the story!!!
Oh okay - sorry to turn this into “crafting corner” - but ya, I had trouble finding a harmless water-based glue that wouldn’t wreck my life if it (inevitably) spilled or got knocked over, yet would set-up quickly to hold these tiny pieces in place. I will try Tacky Glue!
I started with Modge Podge and ended up going all the way to polyurethane... I even resorted to a bit of super glue. But (no surprise) THAT was a disaster.
You would think, “Duh. It is cruel and careless to give some wacky MS lady with hand tremor and vision problems a tube of super glue!!” (That’s on my husband, very poor supervision skills as a caregiver, I must say.) I got the super glue on my thumbs... so then my phone and tablet both locked me out for DAYS because my “thumbprint recognition” failed.
...Finding so many new ways to humiliate myself since diagnosis! 😂
