Mood Swings

Is there a remedy to constant mood swings? I have a hard time concentrating. My mind doesn't stop running on and on with pitiful thoughts. Sometimes the thoughts are guilty or mean and embarrassing. It seems as if it all started at the same time Multiple Sclerosis set in on me.

Sorry, no there is not. It is a condition of our illness. Remember it is a brain disease, recognize them and be at ease with them. They will diminish, never go away I think, but diminish. Good luck with coming to terms with them.

I disagree with this. There are many medications that can help with mood swings, with anxiety, or depression. Being evaluated by your primary care physician a good place to start. Please ask for help with these emotions. I struggled with unfounded periods of anxiety. I take something now as needed and feel much better.

Feel free to vent here, Foots

Royce, you must NEVEr tell someone that it is a hopeless situation, in my opinion. Of course there are so many great meds now available for that very condition. We must receive some positive messages with accurate info on this forum especially if we have walked that same path and gotten help.

Welcome to MSSA

Mood swings

It is not uncommon. Why are you guilty? Why are mean or angry? What are you embarrassed of? Name and then tame it. I had sometimes feelings of anxiety that lead to a slight depression. I went to a psychologist to talk to about my feeling and emotions. I talked to my primary doctor and she put me on some Zoloft. But I do find my faith in Jesus Christ (God & Holy Spirit) and joining a Bible Study class helped. You are beautiful, intelligent, creative ..... these negative thoughts just keep you in a rut and you need to learn new behaviors to keep them away; ruining your perfect day. I am old enough that my hormones effect my moods especially after I reached menopause. They can also check you thyroid. But many people with MS struggle with concentrating. Make sure keep caffeine in the morning or no caffeine (stimulant). Especially near bed time. It could be your medicines that you are taking or their interactions with your medications.

Hello again Foots how are you doing and how is the restless leg? Anxiety and mood swings are part of the ms package but everyone’s mood swings are different. Have you spoken to your doctor? I have mood swings and I haven’t the slightest idea what causes them. One minute I am fine, the next I could bite someone’s head off or I just want to get out of everyone’s way. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on, Blessings Jimeka 🤗

Definately talked to your neurologist about these feelings. My neurologist tells patients to tell their doctor EVERYTHING, and what you are saying sounds like something that is so common with MS--depression. Your neurologist may refer to a therapist or psycologist to help you through it. Just talk to your neurologist.

YES, there ARE medications to assist you with this!!! Please speak to either your neurologist or PCP for a good psychiatrist. Then go see them, I simply cannot emphasize enough that there are good meds available to help you. It can make a HUGE difference in the quality of your life. Do NOT accept it as just “ part of our condition, so damn hopelessly! Please let us or me know how you get on. Be loving and patient with yourself. Love and hugs, Kelly xx

Everyone mentioned medication and professional care, so I’m going to say Headspace is amazing. I think there’s a whole section on navigating negative thoughts.

I had crazy emotions before I was diagnosed. Once on a effective DMT they simmered down. Not saying they're completely gone, but I guess more under control.
