Where is My Cane?!?!?!?!?

It is driving me batty! I'm trying to get used to using my cane INSIDE my home rather than just outside. But when I'm in my kitchen, especially, I'll lean my cane against the cabinets or wall so I can use two hands for something. Then I'll forget where I put it. And so the hunt begins! Now I'm used to losing something that I just had in my hand or I haven't moved from a spot. I'm used to that insanity. But if it's something like my phone, I can call it and follow the ringing. So I think I need one of those little alarm things you can get to find your keys. That way I could just push a button, hear some kind of beeping, and say, "Oh! My cane is in THAT corner!"

My dad used to lose pens regularly. They were almost always found behind his ear.

LOL! While I can't put my cane behind my ear, it is entirely possible it's right under my right hand ;D

Oh, that'd be OK. Better than me claiming my cane just up and walked off--by itself. 'Cause in that case, my cane is moving around better than I am!

I am thinking of getting one of those stand alone canes. I can see me misplacing it. XD

i am right behind you with loosing my canes ...i have two and still can't find them ...what are we to do ? i agree they should have some kind of item to put on them to show us where they are ....great idea..

Hate it when that happens!! Course it's worse when what you're looking for is already in your hand! I've done that more than once.

I haven't lost glasses on top of my head, before. as I never put them there--my hair wraps around stuff like that and I wind up pulling it out. With Aubagio, I need to hang onto every strand I possibly can. But I did once lose a pair of glasses and found them under the tire of my truck!

I agree with you. I have walked off leaving my cane somewhere in my house because I was using the wall. It's a good thing I have several canes because it took me several days before I found it where I had left it. I had visited that spot several times never seeing

My sister in law gave me 2 canes for Christmas. One has a duck head on it the other has a rabbit head on it. I'll use those for getting around the house and stores when I get to that point. For now I only need my walking stick for longer distances. But I can just see me putting one of them down and leaving it somewhere.

like reading glasses,they are always in a pile in another room,I try keeping a cane in every room,but they still end up in a pile

All the years I still used a cane, I seldom used it inside my house. I was able to get by with "wall walking", strategically making it possible to do so. Adding or adjusting hand rails....That first step going down the stairs always had my whole life flashing before my eyes. Especially the last how many, many times I started down those stairs! So I moved the railing up a bit, so I could reach it before having to take that first step! Best remodeling improvement ever. I bought cheap canes. Same type, different colors. A couple always in the car, and a cane rack at the door. Only cane I ever really lost was one an elderly relative took by mistake. Swore it was hers, when I said, I'm sure that's my cane, where's yours? Wasn't worth arguing. The next time I saw her, she apologized. It was in her car, she walked in using her walker forgetting hers was still in her car. So that day, I carefully made it to my car, where I had a backup. BUT....The one I lost was my favorite!!! Same as all the rest, but the foam rubber was a bit thicker and had that better feel? Crazy, right? It's a cane! M.S. affects not only your balance, but also your thinking? Glad I never let on how much I missed that cane! LOL!

Oh, I did actually lose one to Lake Michigan! Shore fishing. It just slipped in. I had a long net, a bunch of things I could have snagged it with using my rod an reel.... But back then the water was murky. I tried, but couldn't see it,...never found it. That was my first, a hospital version handed down to me. Sure if anyone finds it after how many years, it will be as good as the cold snowy March day I lost it back in 1842! Or some other year around then?

Those under $10 ones are the best. They make backups easy! Yes, I literally wore a bunch out. Forget getting new tips, the replacement tips cost as much as a whole new one!

Well, that's why I'm trying to get comforttable using my cane insde my house. I always used furniture, counter tops, and walls. Only when I went into the garage did I use my cane, and that was to peel my partner's kitten off my leg, because that kitten (which was no longer a "kitten" as of November) still thinks I'm a tree. I can gently work the bottom of the cane between my leg and cat paws. However, lately, my balance has been so out of whack, I can't always get to a wall, counter or piece of furniture before I'm looking at biting some carpeting or tile.

I have always kept a backup in my car,there has been a couple of times I have leaned it against the car while getting in and drove off without it,I always went back later and it was still there,I say WOW!

I am not sure a ringer would help me. I was talking to a vender about some lost equipment that needed to make it to a freight forwarder. The vender is a friend that I have been working with for about 30 years. She could tell I was getting adjugated, which is not like me. She asked me what was going on, was the missing equipment upsetting me? No I told her, I can't find my cell phone and I have been looking for it all morning. She asked me what phone had I called her on. I just said Oh.
