FINALLY made a dentist appt to get my teeth cleaned. After x-rays, they kept asking me if I was in any pain...nope. Apparently, somehow, one of my back teeth had been cracked! Had that pulled yesterday, and it feels weird to not have a tooth back there anymore. 800mg of ibuprofen for the pain every 6-8 hours as necessary. Didn't need an antibiotic because it was wasn't a 'trauma' as the dentist put it. More work to be done on other teeth because I have failed to keep up with appts since moving to MI and having to cancel for some reason or another. Just never felt like making the appt and this year I said to myself: MAKE THE APPT ALREADY! I did, and what a doozy. Have to see a root canal specialist so they can check out past root canals (3) as those teeth may need to be 'rebuilt'. I didn't know there was such a specialty but I guess a lot has changed since I have been to a dentist in 7 years.
The good news is, that I really like the dentist and staff. They are so friendly, always making sure you are ok and they explain everything before they do it.
Next cleaning already booked for 6 months so I don't put it off lol

I do not like the dentist. My mum made us go every 6 months and it was indoctrinated into us, so I automatically go every 6 months. I wave my rights so my dentist just gets on with what he has to do and as my mouth is full of tools I don’t ask any questions. Hope you soon get sorted, Blessings Jimeka 🤗
We would go every 6 months growing up and as I got older. For some reason, I had gotten out of the habit at one time and stopped and then went back. And it happened again. Going to continue going from now on
I go every six months and have my teeth cleaned and checked. After chemo and radiation for cancer ♋️ have no saliva glands and have to watch closely. If they can’t be filled or crowns they drill all decay out and put dome shape material over it that’s harder than a crown, but it’s only the height of your gums, weird 🤪. They don’t want to disturb the bone as it causes other problems, so no pulling so far ? 🙏😉 Ken 🐾🐾
It is a good thing to see the dentist every six months. I have been doing that all my life because that was something that I did automatically. My dental insurance is not very good. They just cover cleanings, because they always find some excuse to not cover anything else. I think that their name is Hoover Dental Insurance...
I used to be in the good habit of going to the dentist every 6 months when I lived in WI, but after moving to MI and having other stuff going on, I fell out of the habit of going. Always kept saying I was going to make an appt, but never did until now. Now I am going to be going again, every 6 months
Sorry to hear your insurance only covers cleanings Mine covers a good portion of other things and I have to pay the other portion of it. Much better than not having it, that is for sure. Especially, when they want payment at time of service.
They cover more than cleanings, but it seems that they cover nothing because they constantly come up with reasons to deny anything but cleanings. I have had this insurance since March. Now, our dental insurance is changing again, and I will have a new dental plan beginning January 1st.
I had to have a root canal earlier this year. My dentist tried but could only find one root. Went to the endodontist who easily found the other root. Je couldn't finish because the swelling in my jaw kept sending junk up through the roots so he patched over the top. I took antibiotics for a week (when I was on vacation) then went back. He finished up then sent me back to my dentist who put a post in to anchor the crown. Four appointments for one stupid tooth!!! I'd rather get a pap done than see the dentist! Yuck!
mrsmike9 it's like some doctors..some are better than the other. Just couldn't believe that there are more dental specialists now than I remember than there being before.
Just last week I was visiting my daughter and I was chewing gum and I lost a part of my back tooth. The filling was intact! So when I got home I saw my dentist. He said it probably needs a crown which I would like to avoid, but meanwhile he used the type of conglomerate and it feels quite normal now. He said we'll see how it does but eventually he is sure I'll need the crown, not to mention I have another tooth he told me three months ago that would eventually need one. I am very hard on my teeth. I wear a night guard because I managed to grind my teeth down quite a bit over the past 40+ years.
