I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night and my hand or sometimes both are very asleep. Does anyone else get this?

I sleep sitting up and often wake up with a numb hand and sometimes a numb leg, particularly the foot. I have to get up and shake it out. 🦋
I wake up to left hand asleep and painful. Right hand is always half asleep anymore. What a “pain” but nothing to do about it other than adjust 😩. Good luck and hope you can figure out an option 🙏. 👍🐾🎃 Ken
I sleep in my right side and I’ve been waking up a few times a night with the right hand Beth a sleep and sometimes painful, my left arm and hand sometimes in less asleep. I just move positions and it stops for awhile. It’s was happening before my diagnoses but not this much. I’ll bring it up to Neurologist when I see him in November.
Yes It's annoying. I just thought poor sleeping position or maybe I need better or different pillows. Look forward to hearing other answers. Hope you get a resolution soon.☺️
My left hard frequently falls asleep. I have to shake it out once or twice a night. I think it's the way I sleep on it. I never thought it had any connection to my MS, other than my inability to move when I sleep.
It's usually caused by a nerve which is being pinched from the position that part of your body has been in for a while. For example, if the ulnar nerve through your elbow is being pinched it can make part of your hand go numb (such as the little and ring fingers). The feeling will generally come back fairly quickly once you change position. Or if you've been sleeping on your back with your armed "curled" up over your head another different part of your arm will be numb or sometimes even your whole arm is a asleep and just flops around uselessly for a few minutes until the feeling comes back. It's different to the ongoing numbness from MS nerve damage - e.g. one of my knees is numb to the touch right around the kneecap in a circle about 15cm (6 inches) in diameter - but this is from MS and it's there all the time. The other knee is just fine.
That’s more likely nerve entrapment than circulation. Perhaps you are sleeping with your wrist flexed and compressing the median nerve (carpal tunnel syndrome). Being conscious of wrist position, awake (I.e. computer use) and asleep or a wrist splint can help if that’s the problem.
Pretty much every night. Try acupuncture.
No, I don’t, but Im familiar with that complaint. It can be caused from a nerve or from reduced blood flow, the latter being less common like erash says. Try hugging a firm pillow (opening up your chest) or elevating the head of bead when you go to sleep and see what happens. Pick up a wrist brace at your local drug store and see if that helps.
My feet and lately my hands have been tingling more and I wonder if it's bad circulation or the MS. It's so hard to tell!
mine either tingle 0r are difficult to move and then cramped and painful for a few minutes. it happens only occasionally and I'm not sure why. probably positional and it goes away relatively quickly. its a little unnerving.
