New England people, a question!

My bipolar older sister has just been admitted to Jamaica Plain Psychiatric Hospital in Boston. From the things online it says this place is a real snake pit and is horrible! Anyone have any ideas of better places in the Boston area and how do you get someone transferred?

Thanks so much.

I'm really sorry to hear that mrsmike9 🙁 I don't have a clue, but would start by calling other places that you think are more suitable, and see what they have to say?

Hopefully someone will have a better idea for you!

How are You feeling?

My diarrhea is down to a manageable level. Probably will never go away with this stupid disease. Found out that if you already have an auto immune problem you are open to getting this one. So look out everyone! It makes MS look like a picnic!

There is a private hospital called McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA. It is considered to be the top-rate psychiatric faciality helping those living with conditions such as addiction and borderline personality disorders. They have a web site mcleanhospital.org.

Hello! I am located in central Ma. I just called my husband who is a letter carrier in worcester ma. He said that you should call the Ma dept of health. There is a beautiful brand new facility on Belmont st in worcester. I hope this helps . Dont forget to take care of yourself as well. I was the caretaker for my brother after he had a stroke. I remember being so busy with his appointments I tended to put off my own appointments for dental care and such. Look after your sister but remember you too. Good luck and keep on keeping on!

That's a good idea. I live in Indiana but am ready to jump on a flight if I have to. As my sister is broke and I believe is considered a "ward of the state" even though she's in her early 60's, hopefully I can get her moved. I never thought of calling me MA dept. of health. I will do that right away! Thank you!

Thank you all for your ideas. I will keep phoning places and see if I can track down her friends in the area. She's in Boston and I'm in Indiana. This is tough...

I'm in California, but I agree with calling the dept. of health, Senior care services for suggestions etc. Geriatric Psychiatrists might be able to make suggestions.

I called the Mass. Dept. of Health Friday who referred me to the Dept. of Mental Health. They have given me some ideas. In the meantime we have heard from her and she may get out as early as today!!! So, fingers crossed, she's out of there! Thanks all!
