ACA Protections Threatened

Hey I thought that I would share this for all of us in the US since it directly affects us and our healthcare. I suspect that many of us aren’t aware of what’s going on. Plus we’re mentioned in this video. mobile.twitter.com/morethan...

PunkChic I have always realized that I have the good fortune of having lifetime benefits from my employer. These continued into retirement (though the practice was in effect for only 4 years). Since these benefits are subject to contract negotiations, I am also vulnerable in the event of their loss, because now I have a preexisting condition. My less than full retirement compensation does not provide me the wherewithal to replace the benefits I now appreciate. Without a supplemental policy, I could not afford MRIs that monitor the progress of my MS. I do pay attention, but many don't. This is an ethical issue, not, as some would have it, political. Thank you for posting.

Thank you goatgal. Exactly! This isn’t a political issue when it directly affects an especially hard won right to no longer be discriminated against because of our health status. I have been a pre-existing condition since birth by being birthed breech resulting in a prosthetic hip (and its replacements) with on top of that my MS. This isn’t a political issue since it directly affects our health and if we are chosen to get care at all, not our access to care. Please share so others are informed.

Thanks for posting the video. I live in CT and Chris Murphy is one of our senators. I feel lucky to have him on the side of trying to protect us. I worked in employee benefits for 25 years and put off getting an official MS diagnosis until the pre-existing condition provision was in effect. I had private insurance and was concerned of the potential impact the diagnosis would have if I had to change insurance company. We must all work to protect our rights and assure that everyone is protected.

I don’t have Twitter, what’s the beef?

Hi. I don’t have a Twitter account either although it doesn’t make any difference. I was able to watch the video. It’s about the attempt to remove the protection that the Affordable Care Act provided for pre-existing conditions. A critical issue for millions in the country.

This administration will no longer defend pre-existing condition protections under the ACA and, as I understand it, is actively seeking to declare them unconstitutional in a court of law. Please share to make others aware of this.

Got it! I feel like it’s another way to make insurance providers richer. There might not be any reason to have health coverage at all if this happens, because nothing will be covered anyway.

Yes that is absolutely right but we need to fight back not only for ourselves but others that have life threatening illnesses where an interruption in their healthcare could very likely end up in ⚰️.

Cory Booker is full of shit most days...but that being said I have not been able to get healthcare coverage under the ACA since 2014!!!! So it was never covered to begin with and we were being penalized for not being able to obtain coverage, so I'm glad Trump did away with the ACA!!!

dogdaddy I hear you. I lost my PCIP when the marketplace opened in 2014 and TX (where I lived at the time) didn’t expand Medicaid so I fell into the crack. If only they had kept the public option then this would have never happened.

I think lot of people fell into the crack....which is what got Trump elected....we finally have a NON POLITICIAN AS POTUS ...now if congress would just work with him instead of against him...like John McCain tanked his last effort at getting health care passed...I hate that bastard!!! He doesn't care because he's got great healthcare on the taxpayers dime!!!!

I knew that's what has been going on. Politicians with millions of dollars just don't care. I can't wait for the elections this fall. I'm praying that people who really CARE are voted in, not the bunch of morons we have now...

We have to vote against anyone that is currently holding office and get rid of these people that make a career out of sucking money away from the tax paying citizens!!! It's time for a big change #walkaway
