How long after a course of steroids do you notice an effect?

So I had a 3 day infusion of Solumedrol. Last dose on Saturday. And today, Wednesday, I'm feeling almost human (I am so grateful whatever the reason, but is this the steroids or just coincidence?) πŸ™πŸŒˆπŸ˜Š

Chances are you were experiencing some MS symptoms prior to steriods. With getting 3 days worth. The steroids help with reducing swelling within. After 3 days, what your feeling is fantastic. The treatment reduced the swelling & making you feel better.

This is good. You should feel something especially after having RRMS.

I have SPMS but my neuro and I figured what the heck, my symptoms were worsening, we could give the steroids a try. No doubt, I over did it today so will have to wait and see what you tomorrow brings ...but I'm optimistic 😊

Yes I was going to say with SPMS there is nothing to lose. I have tried 3 day IV solumedrol, one time I felt better but other times I felt different, but not better. Just different. My neurologist was concern with making me feel worse. I am not a good candidate for steroids. I have too much energy some times, get insomnia and can become manic, not always. And floating off is better than weaning off with prednisone. I cannot not tolerate prednisone. I am besides myself on prednisone so it is a fast taper or let me float off. Then crash. But we have a cleaner house. Or nicer garden beds. I stopped creating or widening new ones. πŸ˜€

@tonyiarobinson7 what is "floating off" sounds same as weaning to me? Thanks!

You take 1 or 3 days at high dose and just stop. No weaning off the high dose, eg take 1000 units and stop; no prednisone to wean you off slowly.

I am unable to take Solumedrol due to current health issues. When I did take it back when I was first dx, it worked great for me within a few days. ~terry

@erash, sorry you are having to endure the steroids. I hope and pray that they make you feel better, but don’t over do yourself, that’s defeating the object. Stay calm, rest and enjoy the feeling of possibly being ms free for a few days. πŸ€—

Hooray!! I hope it continues to help you. I can't comment on it, I've never been offered steroids.

Steroids make me feel like I'm on top of the world, but once they wear off the old feeling returns. Unfortunately, they're not for long term use according to my neurologist, which is a shame.

Steroids sometimes gave me energy and made me feel better right away. Other times they made me tired and I slept a lot. So it just depended on what kind of relapse I was in at the time.

Last time I had steroids was in December. They worked great a few days after I took them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the steroids. Maybe you are still in RRMS.

The first time I had them in the hospital they they were great. Helped me regain the use of my left arm and legs so they were great. The ones I had a few weans ago didn’t do a lot in fact I think I felt worse. But my neuro said Tuesday that if this weakness I’m experiencing lasted for a couple more days he would order them again and I’m still so weak I can hardly walk to the mail box. So I guess I’ll find out if the third times a charm.
