We lost our beautiful old schnauzer Saturday

I had to take our beloved Slate, a black schnauzer, 14 years old to the vet at 2 a.m. He was really weak and struggling to breath, so we called their 24 hour e.r. and they said to bring him in right away. It turned out his lungs were filling up with fluid and he was essentially drowning or suffocating. I said we simply must put him down, and the vet said thank you for realizing that is the compassionate thing to do, he was suffering. So of course I held him as he drifted over the rainbow bridge. We lost two dogs last years and one kitty. FYI, I have been reading that tap water is the number one cause of cancer in our pets, dogs and cats. It MUST be filtered, even if it is just a Brita filter. And of course we should drink filtered water too. Slate was also filled with cancer, the vet believed based on a sore he had that would not heal. I am so sad, as is my hubby, we did give him a great life. He was always happy. ☺️ Now he is one more of our doggie angels.

I am so sorry for ur loss. Losing a fur baby is brutal and its the hardest thing in the world to have to make that decision. I understand ur pain. 🙏🏻💜😘😘😘

I am so sorry for your loss. We have had bunnies that have passed and it is hard these bunnies 🐰 who lived out doors lived for 9 years which is a long time. It a sad day when you loss someone you loves

Amore55, I am so sorry to hear you lost you fur baby. I can really appreciate your loss, since we lost our 14 year old German Shepherd. The Vet said that we were keeping our boy alive for ourselves and it was not fair to Max. We totally agreed and put him down, but we have such good memories that eventually overcame the sorrow of losing him. I know that although the loss is devastating right now, the good memories will be with you forever.

Thru the years we have put to sleep eleven rescue furbabies and had them all cremated as my wife plans on putting them with her when she passes 😊🙏 We have loved them all dearly 🙏

Thank you all for your kind words. It sounds as though you all understand the love and joy a dog can bring us. Slate was my “ nighttime buddy”. When I had trouble sleeping, we would go out in the yard together and walk and “talk”. He always shared my pillow each night, well one side, Jasper has the other! And all through the night, Slate would sniff at me to make sure I was okay, then kiss me a whole bunch and we would snuggle up and go back to sleep. Thank you for your loving words. Kelly xx

I'm so sorry for your loss. I understand the heart break. I had a Black Lab named Shadow. He was 13 years old. He was my feet warmer at night. I miss him dearly.

Jimeka I know you understand that love between a person and their dog. I pray Razor is well. Hope I spelled that right, if not , apologies. I know you love him like I love my doggies. 🐶 Dogs just become so much a part of us. We still have one of our “original” pack, which we rescued about 12 years ago. His name is Jasper, and he is now old and starting to fail. Then we have two youngsters, ages two and three! Sending soft hugs and much 💕, Kelly xx

Kelly, I know how heartbreaking it is to lose a pet. I still think of the ones who have died over the years and it brings tears to my eyes. I am so sorry about Slate. We have a mixed breed doxie who had a herniated disc and surgery who we are nursing right now. Think of Slate with good thoughts.

I’m so terribly sorry for your loss of Slate. The vet was right when he said that you were doing the compassionate thing. I have had to help 2 of my Westies leave and it is so incredibly painful and yet one of the greatest acts of love we can do. I like to believe that my little girl is waiting to greet the new arrivals and say welcome 🐾🐾

Amore55, I am so sad to hear of your loss.Its been almost 1 1.2 years since Lil Miss BB passed and she was a salt and pepper. She was only 8 but by my side constantly.Did Slate have a furry buddy?I found not only do i still mourn but Mr Buster who was left is lonely.They are actually using schnauzers to detect cancer.I am grateful for good dog ownership.I volunteer at the humane society and see a lot of love. when i can go.Something about schnauzers though.....my heart is with you.
