As some of you may remember, I rescued another Tuxedo kitty in July of this year. He is mostly black and was named Boston, but I call him Bossy baby brother, as he is nearly three years younger than my first rescue kitty, Ali Cat, who is mostly white. I adore them so!
But, despite my spraying him with Dr. Pol's Spray and using Tropical Waterless Cat Shampoo Mousse, nearly one hour later, his "smell" returns. What is his smell? Well, you tell me or the vet, perhaps?

I've had four cats over the last 30 years and none of them ever smelled. Sorry I have no suggestions, but let us know if and when you find out what is causing the odor. πΊ
Actually, you probably should take him to the vet. Cats normally smell pretty good. Hopefully they can help you figure it out. π Please let us know what they say!
I have a black/white cat. He has a smell also. At first thought it was because he visits his barn friends or the compost pile, but discovered it is actually his breath. I cannot control what he eats, but boy does it stink!
I would check his mouth. I have had kitties for at least four decades, and know a thing or two. There's a condition called stomatitis which is very painful and gives kitty a foul mouth odor. I have had a few fur babies with this kitty condition and their teeth were so rotted, they had to have them all out. Although it sounds awful to pull all a cat's teeth, it isn't. They went on to live normal, healthy lives eating soft food and being out of pain. Please take kitty to your vet for a check-up.
Another thought if your kitty goes outside. Is it possible he was sprayed by a skunk? That's a pretty nasty odor that takes special cleansers to remove. See if it's his fur that stinks or if it's coming from his mouth. Good luck! πββ¬πΎπΎπ€
Agreed, not being neutered creates an incredibly strong-smelling urine once a male cat reaches maturity. But the smell would be coming from the urine, not the cat, right? This is a conundrum! π
