Hi, I'm Sally and I'm new here. I've had MS for 29 years and it's in remission! My doctor thinks the Novantrone helped, but I have changed my diet to mostly fruits & vegetables, and made major changes in my life...got a divorce and got rid of a lot of stress!

Welcome, sallyscharff ! And what great news! We're happy for you. We sure appreciate hearing when someone has had a good day or achieved a goal or just felt better than the day before. But we're also here to share the frustration and loss, and those 'down days' that come with this disease. We're happy you're here, and especially happy to share in your joy. ๐Ÿ’•

Hi Sally, I'm Kristi, welcome! Congrats on the remission and for making the big changes you needed to ๐ŸŽ‰ I am also mostly fruit and veg ๐Ÿ˜ I was just thinking about how drama/stress impacts recovery the other day...

Hi Kristi! Thanks for your note. How are you doing? I cook all my food from scratch - so much work, but it has really helped me, and I try to exercise daily. Stress really made my MS worse, so I got so much better after my divorce.

Hello, Sally! Thank you for sharing such encouraging news!

Hi! Thank you! How are you doing? I read Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and it has made such a big difference in my health. Doctors just want to give drugs - not many know about nutrition.

Got my butt kicked by the heat today and travel yesterday...wearing ice just to get ready to go out for dinner!

Well, I think most doctors spend 15 years in higher education to practice medicine, medical interventions, and are held to evidence based research that the giant's shoulders they stand on supported. Nutritionists, on the other hand ๐Ÿ™„

Anyway, I don't discuss diet with any doctor unless I want a lab drawn, and then the chat is brief and painless. My neurologist told me to get my vitamin D from dairy ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ She's the absolute best at what she does and best fit for me, love her ๐Ÿ˜ป

Anyway, GBOMS! I have read all of the plant based MD books and made up my own thing. I started with Essylstein and dropped my cholesterol 54 points to the "heart attack proof" zone. Enter MS and I have changed to OMS. Pregnancy dictates some of what I eat right now, but I normally have GBOMS, flaxseed or oil, starches and more fruits every day.

Fuhrmans fasting book has a lot of great info about lifestyle and inflammation. Valter Longo demonstrated the same with people and lab results...if you need a rabbit hole to jump in ๐Ÿ˜‚

I understand about the heat! It was about 100 today and I had gone to the cemetery since it was my dad's birthday...congrats on lowering your cholesterol! The nutritarian diet really gives me a lot of energy. When are you due? I had my first MS attack when I was 6 months pregnant.

Ty! I was stupid easy to fix, once I realized, oh, everything is a lie, just don't eat the cholesterol ๐Ÿ˜‚

Same! I'm also lazy and like the portability of raw fruit and veg.

Aug 29th! Yikes, that's rough ๐Ÿ˜ž I'm thankful for knowing beforehand. I can't imagine getting that news while pregnant ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I hope your pregnancy is going well - stay cool! My "baby" is now 28 and getting married August 5th! Fortunately my MS was mild.

It is going great, even though I'm an old mom ๐Ÿ˜ Aww, I hope it's indoors! We have one in GA in July that is outside, I am deciding which dress looks best with my cooling scarf ๐Ÿ˜‚

Glad to hear that!

The wedding is outside (the reception is indoors!) - 100 degrees here! Is this your first baby?

Sorry for my lack of understanding. What does MS in remission mean? I don't associate the term with MS.

StacyHayward profile image
StacyHaywardโ€ข in reply toStacyHayward

Does it mean your not currently in a relapse or something more?

My symptoms have disappeared! I used to walk with a walker and I was on chemo! I still have vision problems and spasticity but it's under control - the only medicine I'm on is Baclofen.

Sallyscharff, it's Fancy1959. First and foremost I want to say congratulations to you on your Ms being quiet and content right now. Let's pray you beat the odds and has not the monster in the head for once and all. On a secondary note I want to welcome you to this awesome chat room. You have found a safe place to come and ask questions, voice concerns, or simply speak to someone who truly understands. This chat room is full of some of the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met. I look forward to getting to know you better and as I tell everyone we have much we can learn from one another. Welcome to the family and I would like to remind you that together we are stronger! Please take care until we speak again.

Thank you so much! My problem now is my bones break when I walk, and I'm pretty sure I just re-fractured my foot ... I was in a boot/on a knee scooter for 10 months, so I'm so happy I don't have to worry about MS symptoms on top of that. I hope you are doing well.

sallyscharff Hello & welcome, I'm glad your MS has backed off. Interesting about the Novantrone, I had 2 infusions of that & did not see any benefit so stopped. Unpleasant drug. I assume you are considered to have progressive MS if they gave you Novantrone.

I agree with you about diet, I think it can make a real difference. I follow a diet known as the Wahls Protocol which is a paleo style diet, low carbs & sugar, no gluten or dairy, lots of veggies. I think it helps, though certainly no cure. Good luck!

Hi, thanks so much for writing. My MS was progressing and I needed a walker, so I'm so proud of myself for turning it around! My doctor thinks it was the Novantrone, but if I hadn't gotten a divorce, I'm sure I'd still be declining. But it's so ironic, my MS symptoms are gone but I can't walk due to osteoporosis. The diet helps me feel better, though. How are you doing?

Awesome news Sally! I began this program called "Live Disease Free" which consists of a Nutritional Ketogenic diet. I am seeing results where some o fmy MS symptoms have already gone into remission. You have given me the extra motivation 2 continue! My health coaches have all been MS symptom free for 15 to 28 yrs. The program is teaching me a lot about eradicating the bad stuff out of my diet and life.

Great news! I'm so glad you're doing better - keep up the good work! I spend so much timing cooking from scratch now but I'd rather do that than go to the doctor!

I concur! I am getting ready 2 make my Kale chips to go to the movies later on! My desire to be MS symptom free is bigger than my desire 2 eat foods that hinder my healing!
