I have just been diagnosed with Pityriasis Rosea and aside from Antihistamines for the itching they say there isn’t much they can do, what have others done to help manage it and how bad can it get?

Pityriasis Rosea - making it manageable
Hi rusticginger,
I don't have your condition, but I hope this info is of some use.
For a list of treatment options go to:
nhs.uk/Conditions/pityriasi...
General advice:
-Avoid soap as it may cause skin irritation. Bathe or shower with plain water and bath oil or aqueous cream. Apply moisturizing cream to dry skin.
-For itching and discomfort take anti-histamines or apply steroid cream.
-If your condition doesn't settle, you can be referred for UV-B light therapy.
The good news is that Pityriasis rosea clears up in about 6 to 12 weeks. Pale marks or brown discolouration may persist for a few months if you have darker skin, but the skin will still return to normal.
Most people with Pityriasis rosea don't have another attack. Occasionally, a viral infection may trigger a second one (this can happen many years after the first).
