Man with Rosacea

Hi. I'm male, 29 years old. Been suffering with rosecea for about 3 years now. I was diagnosed by my specialist doctor about a year ago.

My face is constantly red. It's almost like i have white panda eyes in most cases. my nose, my cheeks, my forehead, my chin is a pinky color.

My neck, ears and rest of my body is pale white. For those who have it, know it's rather unpleasant and really destroys ones confidence. After all, it's not like you can hide your face and in most social situations i feel ridiculously self conscious about how i may look and it really does affect me. Like REALLY bad. I'm a changed person to what i was previously and not in a good way. I'm socially awkward and find normal things too hard.

My skin has been acne free for about a year or 2 after treatment, so i don't look so bad if i say so myself....i just have a really red face.

Going to triggers of it and my experiences.....a night of drinking would definitely make my face redder. One time i drank spicey rum and my face went to a glowing red color and the skin around my eyes were not affected. It's safe to say alcohol and spice does effect it.

I've recently got back from a tremendously hot holiday in Portugal....I got to the point where i didn't care if i got sun burned or not....my friends all could do it.....the side effects where just as normal.....a red face from being in the sun...and the rest of my body caught the sun too.......

....things didn't really alter for me after being in the sun..good or bad...my rosacea didn't alter...things were the same as far as i saw and felt.

...i do think what takes precedence is what i put into my body. This seems to be what obviously causes it.....OR another idea is that JUST my face is so photosensitive it can't handle it. But why just my face? and not the rest of my body and the skin around my eyes?

Whatever i've done to myself over the years something has gone wrong and i'm paying for it.

To try and soften the redness i use EUCERIN anti redness cream. It's basically green cream. Green to counteract the red of my skin. On some days it works ok......but most of the time......it makes my face a paler pink and compared to my neck i always look stupid. It makes me look unhealthy. But it's all i have to feel better so what can i do?

If i didn't use the cream on a night out....my face is noticeably red....the green cream makes it slightly better.

As for pain...i don't have any pain in the face....sometimes my face feels hot and red....but in most cases i am in no obvious discomfort.

Since no medical professional has no clue about how to cure this......i guess it's a case of living with it and overcoming the psychological battle that is rosecea on my own.

Something in my body is making my face red though......i want to work out what it is.

Hi redfacedboy,

I have Sweet's syndrome, not Rosacea, but I do know what it's like to feel so socially awkward.

Don't blame yourself for your condition - the exact cause of Rosacea is unknown. Some things can aggravate the condition, but it isn't self-inflicted.

If you're only using Eucerin, you might need referral to a dermatologist and some form of proper treatment.

Hi mate,

I recently tried a new drug which really helped me. A dermatologist recommended it, I'm not saying it will definately work cos everyone is different , but you never know i guess. It is called Efracea its a tablet. I also use a moisturiser recommended from the same Dr which is Cetaphil.

My rosacea was a nightmare but it much better now. Its not completely gone but its not as sesitive and I dont feel like I stand out so much .

good luck

James

Hi, are you still suffering with Rosacea? I've found that Forever aloe gelly and propolis creme works combined with drinking their aloe berry nectar or bits and peaches inner leaf gel. I'd be happy to consult with you if you would like further information, Rachael. rachaelguest@googlemail.com

Hi, I too have Rosacea and when I was first diagnosed and for a while afterwards I was devastated. I imagined spending the rest of my life indoors. When I went to the doctors I was prescribed a cream that had the side effect of making your skin more sensitive to the sun- obviously not what we need! I found a book in the library calledAcne and Rosacea, the complete guide by Alison Bowser. This book was so helpful to me. I followed some of its advice and now take Milk thistle drops, vitamin c with rosehip and zinc tablets and my skin has improved greatly- although I think it is mostly the milk thistle that helps. Stress also makes my skin worse and may also be a trigger for you. I hope some of this is of help. Feel free to keep in touch. Good luck.

Hi All,

I'm an Assistant Producer looking for a contributor with Rosacea for Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies in the UK.

Would you be interested in having it looked at under a microscope by a top Professor on Friday morning in London? We would cover all expenses - This segment will not be broadcast - it's just for an investigation to see if it's worth featuring in the programme.

Please do call me asap if you are interested.

Many thanks,

Jacqueline

hi I also have rosacea 2009 I developed it I was devastated I have tried lots of different treatment none worked just reacted to them. Also had allergy test I cant use any form of perfume on my face or lanolin. Found out these are used in lots of creams.

I use cetaphil gentle skin wash and cetaphil moisturising cream they haven't caused spots or redness . my husband also shaves with the gentle skin wash best shave he has ever had and causes no redness. Unfortunately I was on antibiotics for 1 year which caused

other problems as it can make your skin sensitive to the sun.

I use sun cream for protection now also a hat I also wear sunglasses for eye protection

my skin

You could ask your doctor for a allergy test if your finding cream on your skin sore. I also found allergy.com a help . also keep my cream in the fridge takes the heat out of my face when I apply it on my skin.

Good luck

Hi, I keep recommending products from MooGoo, helping with your condition too. Products available in the UK from some shops and farmacies. I bought online. It helped a lot of people, and I hope many can benefit from their products. Some products are available on NHS, I believe. Check their website moogooskincare.co.uk/. All the best. Hope it will help you!

I had rosacea with acne for forty years. Tried many different medications, I read that some people have larger amounts of demodex mite on their skin, asked my GP to try new Ivermectin cream. To reduce demodex, It worked very well have had no problems for over a year.
