You're right. Checking and testing oneself to make sure one is ok when time would be better spent on more productive or/and enjoyable activities is a sign of a lack of faith in oneself and a compulsion. One will never be sure enough, but one will be compelled to persist nonetheless when one doesn't see any other way to appease one's mind.
