Welcome to My OCD Community.
What helped me in my OCD recovery is the belief that if you give OCD a finger, it’ll take the whole hand. My situation could have been summarized in three sentences:
1. I won’t stop tormenting myself/overthinking until I found what I’m desperately looking for.
2. I’ll know I found what I’m desperately looking for when I don’t feel the need to torment myself/to overthink anymore.
3. If I keep investing time and energy in compulsions or ruminations, I’ll always feel the need to torment myself/to overthink because pressure to return to reason would be mounting and I wouldn’t perceive any other way to solve my dilemma than to keep tormenting myself/overthinking.
I was kind of hopelessly addicted to overthinking. My way to escape that vicious cycle was to practice ERP and stop engaging in compulsions or ruminations despite of the difficulties. OCD experiences may vary with individuals, but I think what remains constant is that if you get caught in the "OCD bubble", it's extremely difficult to get out of it.
Glad you're here! I hope you find what you're looking for. There is some really good insight in this group. If you need any help or advice don't hesitate to ask questions!
