That isn't good enough. The doctor should at least make a referral - although it may be quite a long waiting list. Medication can help - the SSRI class of antidepressants isn't usually prescribed to under 18s but exceptions can be made in cases of OCD. Ask about this.

The doctor should also have given you some other practical help, suggesting where you can go for support. And offered to explain OCD to your parents, with your consent, and that it's a real mental illness.

If the school knows, at least they can make allowances for you. But I'm afraid that school resources and understanding of mental illnesses are often limited.

It's frustrating, isn't it? But there are things you can do. Talk to your school about it and explain what would help you. And talk to your parents, preferably with a book about OCD. Explaining that you've had it for so many years, and that they've noticed your behaviour when you were little, might help. And make a start on your own therapy - get one or two books!

I’m sorry that adults in your life aren’t responding with guidance to appropriate help. Even a lot of doctors don’t recognize OCD or know where to refer you. The IOCDF has a great resource for kids, their parents and school personnel. Go to iocdf.org, click on Websites, then click on Anxiety in the Classroom. This resource has a plethora of information on how to help kids with OCD, especially in the school setting. It also gives tips on talking to your parents, school staff and your friends about OCD. I commend you for having the courage to speak up and trying to get the help you need and deserve, that’s awesome

Agree 100 percent with natureloverpeace. Maybe someone from iocdf can speak to your parents. You definitely have ocd and need to be treated properly. Keep us posted. We are all here to help you.
