so my intrusive thoughts to me seem very strange, all related to violence, sexual content, horrible words, and a past trauma of someone’s name also having thoughts of the devil and so on..
I’m struggling to understand why mine can be very vivid and seem mystical or sometimes cartoon like.. very hard to explain how they actually are. I’m looking for some reassurance that I’m not the only one with such thoughts.
I can give an example,
Sometimes when I’m eating my head from nowhere says there’s slugs in your dinner.
I can imagine my family being ripped apart by huge sharp knife claws.. ( I can see it so clearly)
I will look at an object and I get an instant thought of harm towards loved ones.
people can all of a sudden morph into a vampire when I walk past them in the street and bite my neck.
Thanks for reading and taking the time.

Hi Wesla. It sounds like there's more than OCD going on. Yes, those types of thoughts are intrusive, but the content, in my opinion, is something else. Don't take my word for it, but it sounds a little like some psychosis may be happening.
But again, this is only my opinion. It is still worth getting checked out, I think.
There seems to be some harm OCD going on when you look at an object and harm to others comes into your mind, but the other things, to me and in my experience, seem to be caused by something more than OCD.
Please reach out to a dr-a primary care Dr or a therapist. If you don't have a therapist, and if you would like to talk to one, a primary care Dr should be able to help you out w/ that- to suggest a therapist. Tell them what's been going on, and they can tell you where to go from there.
Please update if you can. I would be interested to know what's going on.
They are all only thoughts like no hallucinations happen or anything..
thanks for replying x
Dear Wesla,This does sound like OCD to me. Everyone gets crazy thoughts that come out of nowhere, but those of us with OCD get stuck on these thoughts and attach all kinds of significance to them whereas people without OCD just think, "Oh, what a crazy thought" and move on. I agree with SCC1 that seeing a therapist could be very helpful. My therapist taught me to label those thoughts by saying to myself "This is my OCD. This is my brain cells misfiring." OCD also especially latches on to the most disturbing and "forbidden" thoughts we have. Don't try not to think these thoughts; try to let them float by or even find humor in them--fried slugs with garlic might be delicious 😊.
One of my tools I use in cases such as this is to tell OCD out loud quietly "oh, hello OCD, thanks for letting me know about this, now go!!!" then completely get rid of the thought and never let it bother me again. If it happens, do this again. With practice, you will learn to not pay much attention to it and it will fade. If you start wondering WHY you are thinking this, or that you are a terrible person, etc. etc. OCD has control of you. Remember that OCD is a bully and tells you things that are NOT TRUE.
Hey Welsa. I can relate to the food one. One of my main obsessions is/was that there were bugs/spiders in my food that I couldn't see and would by accidently eat. In the worst parts of my OCD I had stopped eating most fruit and vegtables and all my favorites. I would seek ERP therapy It's whats really helped me. I'm back to eating my faorite foods. I still have the thoughts and I don't let them drive my behavior. I used humor to cope with mine. Ok I'm eating spiders and they are going to be little dentists in my mouth cleaning my teeth, ok the bugs/worms are having a dance party in my stomach and yelling "do the worm!!". ERP is the best advice I can give you, and for some medication may help as well
My son's OCD was much worse when he was younger -- I guess the worst period was 4th grade to 9th grade. He had a specific phobia, too -- spiders. Things were so bad that sometimes at night he thought that my face was covered with spiders. Sometimes he had the intrusive thought that there were spiders inside his mouth and his head. It took several years but he got over his specific phobia with ERP and supportive medication. I hope you are able to make progress as well.
