Hello everyone!
I have been thinking about you all and wanted to share a realization I had today that I thought you may appreciate.
I went out to brunch with a close friend of mine this afternoon. Historically, this has been a very hard thing for me due to contamination concerns and agoraphobia. I was definitely nervous going and am still sitting with a lot of discomfort, but I realized that recovery isn't always not having discomfort or never having to work to move toward my values.
It's finding an increasing willingness to sit with and even welcome that discomfort. To view moving toward my values as a worthwhile challenge vs a terrible event to be avoided at all costs.
The freedom isn't about being free of all intrusive thoughts, but being free to do what I value despite them.
I think, that this definition of recovery suits me and I feel at peace with it. Will I get sick? Maybe. Maybe Not. Did I move one step closer to my values? Absolutely.
