Hi my ocd intrusive thoughts are really bad. I keep thinking I’m getting schizophrenic??? I can’t stop thinking I’m hearing things. I question every noise I hear. I deep down know it’s anxiety but it’s scared me. I can’t sleep my mind races with thoughts and weird stuff all the time. Any help would be appreciated to put my mind at rest.

I don’t even know what it is.

I think it is not a correct diagnosis.....I think doctors that aren't up on ocd misdiagnose it because of the intrusive thoughts and fear.

hey, that had happened to me too, particularly when I have a severe episode of intrusive thoughts. Intrusive thoughts makes you doubt yourself and can feel like you are loosing your mind but you are NOT! You are having a bad OCD episode. I find one book very helpful. You might want to give it a try. I felt it was written for all of us struggling with intrusive thoughts. "Overcoming unwanted intrusive thoughts"

Thanks I will get that book today! Did you have trouble sleeping and just lay awake with weird thoughts ?

When I’m in OCD episode I forget what sleeping is at all. I can’t eat, sleep or function normally at all. All I do is lay in bed and have anxiety and panic attacks non stop. It is so intense that I loose about 10 pounds in 5 days if I don’t take medications to calm me down. Antidepressants make things a lot easier for me. I still have intrusive thoughts from time to time. They are just less powerful. And I listen to this book. That helps with the calming down too

I’ve been there too man. I’m honestly currently there. It’s tough. Fears of going crazy or getting possessed. I think it all stems to being afraid of losing control. You’ll get through this man. Seek out the right help, surround yourself with the right people. It’ll all be good

My first intrusive thoughts were fear of possession which was weird since I’m not even religious lol. They evolved in other thoughts once I stopped being afraid of it. My brain is amazing in finding new things to freak me out about

I’ve been there so so many times! Through ERP and ACT life is enjoyable again. I suffered for a long time before I figured it all out though. 🤍

Oh yeah. Some days or nights. But honestly, you have to push through it. Medicine helps a lot, therapy helps a lot. But the biggest thing is just pushing through. Especially when it’s hard. Everything about ocd is irrational. So don’t try to sit and rationalize it. And those times where you want the thoughts to stop. Tell yourself and that irrational part of your mind to bring it on. Give me all you got. The more you fight it the worst it is

I had the same thinking about going crazy and hurting myself. I was convinced that I had an “itch” to cut myself. Or I would be driving in a parking garage and think “hey people jump off of buildings. Oh my god, does having that thought mean I want to jump off this building.” I ended up working with a therapist and writing imaginal exposures. So for you, it would be writing out a story where you do have Schizophrenia. Something I found really helpful was “the mindfulness workbook for OCD” by John Hershfield
