Medication Dosage

I have been on Zoloft (anti-depressant) medication for OCD, since a long time.

Recently, my dose was increased to 350 mg from 250mg.

Since my dose has increased for the past two months, my OCD symptoms have become worst.

I am having higher levels of anxiety.

Also, the side effect of Zoloft, which is sweating, has increased a lot.

I did some research online and it did mention that sometimes high dosages of Zoloft could worsen the symptoms, cause higher anxiety, and increases sweating.

Thus, I consulted my Psychiatrist, and she tapered the dosage to the original dosage of 250mg.

These side effects do not happen to everyone.

Everybody reacts differently while taking Zoloft.

I understand that OCD usually requires a higher dose than other anxiety disorders. My son is now on 100 mg of Prozac. The usual top recommended dose is 80mg. So I get pushing the envelope on meds. But 350 mg of Zoloft seems like a lot when 200 is the typical top recommended dose. My son was on 200mg of Zoloft for a long time. I would not be surprised if it made you worse. An adjunct of an antipsychotic might help more than a higher dose of Zoloft. Many with severe OCD take an antipsychotic in addition to their SSRI.

I am taking an anti-psychotic medication named Latuda, in adjunct with Zoloft.

I have read a lot of opinios from OCD and depression sufferers and the majority of them had many and severe side effects. Thats the reason I dont take such pills. I was on Zanax for 8 years since I had diagnosed wrongly with anxiety disorder and I had stopped zanax for 15 days now.

I think that the best "pill" is exposure and prevent response but I guess it didnt work out for you right?

in reply toGreekdude

Exposure and Response Prevention did not work out for me.

Even the medications that I am taking are not really helping with OCD.

But they are just helping me function on a daily basis.

I have tried in the past not being on any medications,

and it was a disaster for me.

It was difficult to even function everyday.

I am really sorry...

With all this negative symptoms are you able to be a member of the work force?

in reply toGreekdude

I am not able to do a job with OCD symptoms.

In the past, I was an office manager, and even though I had severe checking, to make sure I am not making any mistakes, I was promoted to a higher pay, with my good performance.

Now I am on more medications than before, alsoI have severe OCD episodes, thus it is not easy to work.

I am just barely able to do household tasks on a daily basis.
