Hey guys, I am a specialist with OCD and am making different training videos to help as many people as I can. I created a video on how we treat scrupulosity using the evidence-based treatment of exposure and response prevention.
Scrupulosity is a beast but did you know there is REAL treatment. Scrupulosity can make people believe that they are bad people, that they are sinning, that are never good enough.

Yes, scrupulosity is a huge piece of my OCD reality. I continue to obsess about a forced abortion 48 years ago. Having an abortion violated my values and my OCD continues to torment me with suggestions that I am unworthy, sinful and damned to hell. I get triggered with anxiety at church when there is yet another admonition from a priest or other church member about the evil of abortion. I want to avoid going to church altogether; yet I continue to attend all the white feeling like a fraud and hypocrite. Church does not comfort me; church reminds me every week that I committed the ultimate sin five decades ago when I was a frightened, desperate and unsupported young woman. I hate the fact that I had an abortion in 1972, and I hate the fact that OCD /scrupulosity continues to haunt me with guilt and regret. I also hate knowing that many Catholics would cheer knowing my mental anguish. They would purport that I’deserve’ to suffer. I remain very conflicted about Catholics and the Catholic Church in general. They are very unkind and judgmental, especially with regards to the so-called sins of women. I’m rambling, but Nathan’s video on scrupulosity reminded me about my dilemma of unmitigated guilt.
Thank you so much for being vunerable and sharing your story. I can tell that you are an amazing person. I am so sorry for what you have experienced. No one deserves to feel anxious or fearful in life. I hope that you can feel some relief soon. Treatment can really help if you haven't tried it already. Some treatments that can really be useful are ACT therapy and exposure and response prevention. I would really just trust those who are registered on iocdf.org --- I can tell you that I do not know you personally but can feel that you are worth more than your brain is giving you credit for. Don't give up my friend!
Hi. I understand why you have the conflict you do. As a believing person, you also know that we believe in a God who wants to forgive us. Jesus promises to forgive those who ask. You can look at verses on forgiveness in the New Testament and when your OCD tries to overtake your thoughts, remember the promises of God. I hope this helps...never forget His love for you
