Hello guys , I am in the middle of CBT and now I am about to start Exposure and Prevent therapy.

When I wrote the Situational Exposure Menu , I felt really anxious and I have stomachache as well as a lot of evacuations for two days.I took one zanax at night , I feel a little better today but still I have a little anxiety.

Thoughts?

Hey!Just joined!

I wanted to tell you that is it SO SO normal to go through those physical feelings before starting ERP. I know this might sound crazy, but ERP can be a fun and great journey if you want it to be. I went through the same exact thing as you and to get rid of my fear of ERP, I did what I do best- create. I created lists of all my compulsions and obsesssions, and wrote down creative ideas to knock each one down. There were hard moments, but I inserted fun and it was both fun and effective. I have to say that I am 97% OCD free from that one year of "creative exposures". I actually have a blog in which I post ideas to get rid of OCD, for different OCD types respectively. If you need anything, I'm here!

Purchase the book : Getting over OCD by J.Abramowitz.

It was very helpful for me.

However, I have a therapist too.

Of course you have to do CBT and response prevention to overcome OCD . ( you will follow all the steps from the book mentioned )

Yes. It is ERP Ideas to overcome OCD

I have done the Exposure Response Prevention hierarchy of symptoms at Rogers Residential Treatment in Wisconsin.

I had to start working on the symptoms which create the less anxiety.

Since we have to resist the compulsions, I did feel lots of anxiety.

But slowly the anxiety fades away.

I had to work on Imaginal Exposures with different situations.

The anxiety level had to be tracked until it comes to zero.

It is a process which takes time, but it did work for me.

The only unfortunate part was that after I came home, there was no follow up, and I did not have a therapist, so my relapse happened, and all my symptoms had returned,

I am glad you are seeing a therapist, and getting some treatment.

Hope you feel better.

I will try my best but I have a strong obssesion that I dont know if I ever manage to overcome.

Could you tell me How much an ocd clinic specialised for OCD costs?

Because I do CBT with my therapist and with a book from Jonathan Abramovich but I realised that Abramovich knows much more than my therapist and I am thinking if I did not manage to overcome my OCD, to visit a clinic in the USA .

I go through lots of obsessions.

They come and go on their own.

Some stick for days, weeks, years, but eventually, they will go away.

Then, OCD gets stuck on something else.

Obsessions are very painful, since you do not have control over them.

Treatment in America is very expensive.

An OCD specialist for just a 50 minutes appointment, cost $250, and above per session.

In the past, it was not that expensive, but now it is just too much.

Thus, I am not able to go for therapy.

First, you have to find a therapist whom you can have a connection.

In addition, a therapist who has knowledge and experience in treating OCD patients.

I hope the treatment works out for you.

I went to the best Psychiatrist in the North region of Greece ( I pay 80 eyros per 50 minutes , thats a lot of money for Greece since I am unemployed), I cannot go to the capital , it is too far away , he is specialized in OCD and he had worked abroad for years although he is not as good as Abramovich is.

Anyway How much money does Rogers Residential Treatment charge and for how many weeks approximately?

in reply to Greekdude

Rogers Residential treatment was very expensive for me.

I had to pay some out of pocket expense, and some of it my insurance covered.

I went in December 2015.

I am sure the cost must have changed now.

If you are interested, the best way is to call and find out.

Sometimes they even have waiting lists.

I live in California, and had to fly down to Wisconsin.

I stayed over there for 3 weeks.

It all depends upon how long you stay over there.

I was assigned a therapist, but she did not have enough time for me, since she was assigned many patients.

There are some group activities.

You share a room with another patient.

There is a big dining hall, where all the meals are served, from the kitchen.

thank you!

Start with items that are less stressful on your ERP list. You do not have to start with the worst ones, just a little bit at a time. A free resource you can use online is ocdchallenge.com/ which will walk you through a lot of the steps as well. Good luck!
